Morris County Youth Soccer Association

Overview:
The North Jersey 4v4 Festival is an official NJYS 4v4 program. Under guidelines set by the US Soccer Player Development Initiative (PDI) the event is designed to give clubs the opportunity to develop young players.  Through 4v4 games and in a festival format, young players are given opportunity to develop their skills in a small-sided setting.  Program is Administered by the MCYSA Board of Directors and NJYS Coaching Staff

4V4 SOCCER – MAKE IT FUN

Per the U.S. Soccer Player Development Initiatives, players aged 6, 7, and 8 get the most out of the game when playing 4v4 soccer: four players on one team versus four players on the opposing team. 4v4 soccer introduces players to structured play on a field with age appropriate physical dimensions and does not feature goalkeepers or the offside rule. Coaches and parents of 4v4 players are encouraged to create a fun, safe, developmentally appropriate environment for players. At this age, players should be provided with the opportunity to play and have as much fun as possible; winning and losing should not be an important factor.

North Jersey 4v4 Ages and Team Formation:

North Jersey 4v4 is a grassroots program that is designed for 7U and 8U players.  Most clubs who participate form balanced teams by age and gender.  Best practice is to mix player ability levels the day of the event that align and are an extension of what skills were worked on during training.  At the start of the 4v4 season, we request that you do not form A and B teams so there is not a competitive drop between rotations.  Teams are often formed Boys, Girls, Boys w/higher level Girls, and Co-Ed.  Don’t wait for the perfect time to start participating.  We welcome all, if you have a group of 4-5 NJYS, US Club Soccer, or AYSO (Members organizations of US Soccer) Registered players and a coach, bring them we will get them playing…

Eligibility:

The North Jersey 4v4 Festival is open to US Youth Soccer and NJ Youth Soccer players who are registered for the current Seasonal Year.
Example: Fall 2023-Spring 2024, Fall 2024-Spring 2025, etc.

Cost:

$80 per team slot in up to 8 events per season. $50 for MCYSA Member Clubs.
Per event fee is $30 if a team is planning to participate in a few 3 or less events.
All payments made to MCYSA or processed by CC through US Soccer Connect. Clubs not in good standing with NJYS and/or MCYSA may be restricted from participation and lose reservations in any event.

There are no refunds.  As a non-profit, the events are coordinated by volunteers, directed by board members, and hosted by local clubs.  The time and costs associated with each event leave little room to repeat rescheduling and the administration of refunds.  Credit for a future MCYSA event may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Reserving a slot
Most events will have 32-40 slots can be reserved when we have a full sided 11v11 field available to us.  If we have a single full sided field the ideal is 16 teams in each session allowing spacing between fields and ample room for parent/families to enjoy the event.  We ask that a club does not request more than 4 slots in any session so we can have a diverse mix of clubs and teams within a group of 16.  If the location can accommodate more 20x30 yard fields, we will expand beyond 16 fields to up to 20 and will advise when more slots are available.

To reserve a slot email [email protected] the following information:

Name of Club
Date of Event
# of Boys slots
# of Girls/Coed slots
Point of Contact for your club Name, email, and mobile

Club 4v4 contact(s)

Please identify a Club Point of Contact (POC) and send an email to [email protected] who within your club should be your Club (POC).  It is important that both a Parent Manager and Trainers are informed of where and when events are taking place.  Ideally 1 person within the club, but it is OK to expand to 3 to assure both the boy’s group, girl’s group, and your Director of Training is informed.  Too often we have the Boys group in a club fully updated and Girls not informed or Trainers on-site who didn’t get any communication from their club representatives.  Today’s email is going to the MCYSA LC Contact list and the Spring 2022 4v4 contact list to make sure we reach the broadest audience possible.  Future communications for NorthJersey4v4 will be reduced to the 4v4 distribution list.

Hosting an event details

If your club is interested in hosting an event, please email [email protected] with the name of the club, suggested location, size of field (aka 75 yards by 120 yards), parking limitations, the day/date, and time range you are interested in.  For field scheduling purposes, it is a 5-hour field reservation that starts 1-hour before kickoff to be safe.  This buffer time before allows those on the field to get off, walk around placing down 104 cones and 16 goals, the parking lot to reload with entering families, and handle field assignments.  Total time window is about 4 hours first kick to last kick. So, an event starting at 10AM would need a field block for 9-1 in the narrowest window to be safe and no one hovering over us to get the kids in or out. With set-up and take down considered 5-hours is better.  6-hours if there are unique parking limitations between groups.  We had events last year that had over 180 vehicles at one time on-site which created some headaches for families dropping their players off then going off to park.  We hope to avoid this with a longer break between groups to turn the parking lot over.
