League Year 8, 9, 10, 11, and 12 Summer Selection Process
Player Selection (A Team):
To be eligible for A team selection, players must have attended at least 50% of WLL Spring games within their division.
Additionally, WLL would like all kids chosen on the Summer A teams to be fully committed and in full attendance during the summer season. Any planned vacations or other known scheduling conflicts need to be known before the teams are finalized. We will factor known attendance issues into the player selection process, as we not only want the most deserving kids to be on our teams, but also the kids that will be there a very high % of the summer season.
Two Coaches per Spring Majors team will vote on 12A and 11A players. Two coaches per Spring Minors team will vote on 9A and 10A players (this will also include input from Majors coaches for 10s playing in Majors).
The Player Agent will review a list of eligible Summer players for voting and share with the Majors coaches who will submit a list of ten (10) WLL 12-year olds and (10) WLL 11-year olds to the Player Agent and same the process will be followed by the Minors coordinator for 10s.
Summer A team selections should be based on Coach evaluations throughout the season as well as the age specific tryouts for Summer Ball.
Selection results are confidential. Coaches are to only send this information to the applicable Coordinator and to not discuss/collaborate with coaches outside of their Spring team.
The WLL Board will host a call with Majors/Minors Coordinator will host a call to discuss player selection with voting coaches.
The top 9 players (with the highest number of votes) will be awarded a roster spot on the WLL Summer A team for their respective age group.
The remaining 3 players will be determined by the board approved Head Coach with input from both their approved assistants.
Coach Selection (A Team):
All WLL Spring Head and Assistant Coaches are eligible to Head Coach the Summer A team for their child’s respective age group (12A, 11A, 10A, 9A, 8’s)
The Majors Coordinator will solicit interest for 11A and 12A Summer teams with the Minors Coordinator handling that role for the 9A and 10A team
Coaching candidates will be presented by applicable coordinator to the WLL board.
The WLL board will approve 1 Head Coach to represent WLL as their applicable age group Summer A teams coaches.
The WLL board and the Head Coaches will approve 2 Assistant Coaches to represent WLL as their applicable age group Summer A teams.
Candidates for coaching who are on the WLL board will neither be present nor have a vote for the age specific group they are requesting to coach.
The Coaches receiving the highest number of votes will be selected as the WLL A coaches for their age specific group.
In the event of a tie the WLL board will discuss the candidates again and hold a second round and will continue subsequent rounds until the tie is broken.
The Head coach can add additional assistants from the group of rostered player’s family
Coaches and Player Selection Process for the 10, 11, 12 B teams will follow the A teams Selection Process.
There is a max of 1 B team at each level.
At the B Level, the understanding is that players should not be missing more than a few games throughout the season. If you have a family vacation planned please share those dates with the coaches ahead of the evaluation process. We make these suggestions because selection for these teams is competitive.
Once on a team, it is imperative that you aim for full participation and communicate unexpected conflicts. We will do our best to accommodate all players that register, but the reality is, we may not have enough players to form a B team at some levels, or we may have too many B players and would have to implement a system of alternates that could play from game to game when numbers are low.
