SAILORS SNUG HARBOR LITTLE LEAGUE HISTORY
Sailors Snug Harbor Little League was established in 1964 on the North Shore of Staten Island within a strong and amicable West Brighton community. The league has been an integral part of the neighborhood and has been serving the community with programs for both boys and girls ever since.
In September of 2022, league President, former Major League Player, and Port Authority Officer Anthony Varvaro tragically passed away in the line of duty. Mr. Varvaro was a dedicated public servant, family man, and committed to creating the best possible Little League experience for all the players, volunteers, and families throughout his community. To continue his vision, the league, along with the help of family, friends, and the community Mr. Varvaro had touched, bonded together to make major upgrades to the complex, most notably field lights for the three fields at the complex. The upgrades have allowed the league to continue Mr. Varvaro’s legacy and remove the scheduling barriers it faced in the past, allowing it to provide enhanced baseball and softball programs, as well as ancillary events to the community.
Snug Harbor Little League was the recipient of the 2023 Carl Stotz Little League of the Year award. The award honors leagues that create a diverse player-centric culture, removes barriers for entry, and meet the needs of underserved communities.
