MGSL is now a Little League Charter!
This fall the MGSL board made the tough decision to start the process of becoming an official Little League. Different MGSL boards throughout the years have struggled with the decision to go from a "local city league" to a Little League charter. This was mostly based on a couple of things that have always been important to our league. In past discussions dividing the league into NW and NE was not attainable. Splitting 150 kids into two leagues was not going to work for our league for obvious reasons. The MGSL has always served kids in surrounding communities that may be excluded based on Little League boundaries. Last but not least is the want and need to supply the best product we can at a fair price. We have tried to keep our prices as reasonable as possible and our previous insurer and softball governing body for many years provided us the best price. When we entered discussions with Little League this fall these issues were at the forefront of our minds. What we ultimately decided with the help of Little League was that the best way to move forward was to create a new Little League charter instead of breaking into NE and NW, the two established Little Leagues in Midland. The two established Little League Charters in Midland gave us their blessing to create are own charter and we thank them for that. It never really made sense to divide our league in half and I am happy to say we do not have to. Both Midland Fraternal NW and NE girls will be able to remain in one unified league (MGSLL). On top of that our overall costs are going to go down and our insurance is going to be more comprehensive. The girls in the surrounding areas who would like to play in Midland have a couple different avenues within Little League rules so most will have an opportunity to play in our league if they so choose. Not much will change for the day to day operations of our league. We will most likely have 4 age groups aligned with Little League. Tee Ball-6U, Coach Pitch-8U, Minors-10U, and Majors 12U. One of the biggest changes you will see in our league is that our girls will now be able to compete in Allstars at the state and national level. In past years we were only allowed to play in local tournaments, because we were not a sanctioned Little League. Our all stars are sometimes known as "The Bombpops" because or our blue and pink colors. We hope our Bombpops are excited about the chance to play all stars at the highest level.
