All divisions are based on the player’s play age. Play age is based on the player’s age as of August 31 each year and can be found at www.littleleague.org/play-little-league/determine-play-age.
SOFTBALL DIVISIONS:
Minors – Typically for girls 2nd grade to play age 9 or 10. This is a hybrid player/coach pitch league. Each batter will receive 4 pitches from the other team’s pitcher. If after 4 pitches the batter hasn’t hit or struck out, the batter’s coach will throw two more pitches. Games can be anytime during the week M-F at either 5:30 or 7:30. Usually 1 to 2 games a week with a total of 12 games throughout the season.
Majors – Typically for girls play age 11 to 12. This is a player pitch league. Normal softball rules apply. Games can be anytime during the week M-F at either 5:30 or 7:30. Usually 1 to 2 games a week with a total of 12 games throughout the season.
Juniors – Typically for girls play age 13 to 15. This is a player pitch league. Normal softball rules apply. Games can be anytime during the week M-F at either 5:30 or 7:30. Usually 1 to 2 games a week with a total of 12 games throughout the season. Some of these games are played at different locations besides Washington Little League Fields.
BASEBALL DIVISIONS:
Single A/Machine Pitch: Typically for boys or girls play age 7 to 8. A full-size pitching machine is used which pitches real baseballs. Speed on the machine is set at around 34 MPH. Each batter gets a maximum of 6 pitches from the machine. All players play in the field each inning. No stealing. Games can be anytime during the week M-F at either 5:30 or 7:30. Usually 1 to 2 games a week with a total of 12 games throughout the season. No tryouts for this division. We will do our best to put players on teams based on geographical areas.
Double A: Typically for boys or girls play age 9 (with some play age 7 and 8 year olds who tryout and are drafted to play up). This is a hybrid player/coach pitch league. Each batter will receive 4 pitches from the other team’s pitcher. If after 4 pitches the batter hasn’t hit or struck out, the batter’s coach will throw one to two more pitches. No dropped third strike. No stealing home. Games can be anytime during the week M-F at either 5:30 or 7:30. Usually 1 to 2 games a week with a total of 12 games throughout the season.
Triple A: Typically for boys or girls play age 10 to 11 (with some play age 9 year olds who tryout and are drafted to play up). This is a player pitch league. Normal baseball rules apply. Games can be anytime during the week M-F at either 5:30 or 7:30. Usually 1 to 2 games a week with a total of 12 games throughout the season.
Majors: For boys or girls play age 12 (with some play age 11 and 10 year olds who tryout and are drafted to play up). All play age 12 year olds play in this league unless special circumstances exist. This is a player pitch league. Normal baseball rules apply. Games can be anytime during the week M-F at either 5:30 or 7:30. Usually 1 to 2 games a week with a total of 12 games throughout the season.
Pony: For boys or girls play age 13 to 16. This is a player pitch league. Players who are play age 16 are allowed to play, but are not allowed to pitch. Normal baseball rules apply. Games can be anytime during the week M-F at either 5:30 or 7:30. Usually 1to 2 games a week with a total of 12 games throughout the season.
