General Questions
How are registration fees used?
Hauppauge Little League is a 100% non-profit volunteer organization. Our budget addresses field maintenance, field improvements, utilities, insurance, equipment, uniforms, umpires, and administrative costs.
How are the league divisions organized?
Ages 5 and up can play. Specific divisions TBA.
Do you have to live in Hauppauge to play?
No. Anyone can register and play for Hauppauge Little League.
I have a daughter. Can she play?
Yes. We have had, and currently have many girls that play in our program.
How do I register for Hauppauge Little League?
On-line registration usually opens in November. In-person registration dates will be in January. Specific dates will be posted on the website.
What forms of payment are accepted?
On-line registration accepts all credit cards. In-person registration is check or cash only.
Is there a discount for siblings?
Yes.
What equipment is needed?
A baseball glove and batting helmet is all that is required. A few team bats are provided but many kids have their own. Each team will have some extra helmets, but personal helmets are recommended. Cleats are optional and must be molded. No metal spikes. No big barrel bats are allowed. Athletic supporters/cups are recommended for all boys and mandatory for catchers. The league provides each team with catcher's equipment.
Are uniforms provided?
Yes. Each player gets a jersey, hat, and socks. Coaches also get a jersey and hat. Each player must provide their own baseball pants.
When does the Spring season start and end?
Opening day is typically the first or second Saturday in April. The season will end in June.
When are the games played?
Games are played on Saturdays and weeknights. Typically teams will play one game during the week and one game on Saturday.
How many games are in the spring season?
Typically about 12, plus playoffs for the older divisions.
Where are the games played?
Most games are played at the HYO Complex. There are 5 fields (T-Ball, 60 ft, two 60/75 ft, one softball). Some games will also be played at other town or school fields.
How about practices?
The practice schedule is determined by the coach.
Where do I find the game schedule?
Schedules will be posted on the website.
How are teams selected?
Coaches will have spring meetings to determine the rosters. You can make carpool and coach requests when you register. However, it is the policy of the board to have competitively balanced teams at all times, especially in the older divisions. No carpool requests are guaranteed. We will always attempt to honor most requests for the younger divisions. For the older competitive divisions, carpool requests are secondary to creating evenly balanced teams.
When will I find out what team my child is on?
Rosters are typically completed in mid-March. Your coach will contact you.
How many players are on a team?
The goal is no more than 12 players on a team. In certain circumstances a team might have more or less than 12.
Can my child "play up" in an older division?
No. Register for the appropriate division based on your child's date of birth and grade. A birth certificate may be requested by the league to confirm date of birth.
Are there standings and playoffs?
Yes, for the older divisions. Currently standings are kept for AAA, Minors and Majors. All teams make the playoffs.
What are the rules on pitch counts?
We use little league guidelines. Refer to the rules page for specifics.
How do I become a coach?
HLL is always looking for both head and assistant coaches. On the registration form you can volunteer. Baseball experience is great but not required. A love of the game and the kids is all that's needed. All potential coaches will have a background check performed.
Can I get a refund of my registration fee if something changes and my child can't play?
Yes, before the season starts. Please send a request to the league's email address.
Can I become a member of the HLL board?
Yes. The HLL board is 100% volunteer and unpaid. We are always looking for new members who want to help with the organization of the league. Please contact a current board member if interested.
Is there a travel program?
Yes. HLL has travel teams from 8U-12U that play in summer leagues. Please refer to the travel page for more information.
I have a child who plays on an outside spring travel team. Can he play in HLL during the spring?
Yes. But because of little league's pitch count rules, he or she would not be eligible to pitch when playing for Hauppauge Little League. There is no way that HLL can monitor how many pitches a child is throwing for his other team so for child safety, he or she cannot pitch when playing HLL games.
Is there any indoor training in the off season?
Yes. Look for information on the website about our indoor spring training sessions that occur prior to the start of the season.
How do I find out if a game is rained out?
Check the league website for updates on bad weather days. Keep in mind that some fields may close due to unplayable conditions even if it is not raining at game time.
Are there team pictures?
Yes. Both team and individual pictures are professionally taken in the spring. Information will be posted on the website.
I own a business. How do I become a sponsor of the league?
Contact the current board member who is in charge of sponsorships. Many different types of sponsorships are available (field signs, uniforms, etc.).
