What to Bring: Your Youth Baseball Checklist

Preparing for a successful season of youth baseball starts with having the right gear. Below is a comprehensive list of items every player needs to bring to practices and games. Ensuring your child is properly equipped will help them feel confident and ready to play their best!

Essential Gear

  1. Baseball Glove:

    • Choose a glove that fits comfortably and is appropriate for your child’s position.
    • Make sure it’s broken in and ready for gameplay.
  2. Bat:

    • Select a bat that meets USA regulations (check for specific size and weight requirements).
    • Consider grip tape or a bat grip for extra comfort.
    • Check out our Bat Rules tab for additional guidelines.  If unsure ask your coach.
  3. Batting Helmet:

    • Helmets must meet safety standards and fit snugly.
    • The league will provide shared helmets to teams if needed.
  4. Baseball Cleats:

    • Non-metal cleats.
    • Make sure they’re the correct size for comfort and stability.
  5. Uniform:

    • Include jersey and hat (provided by league)
    • Pants, belt, and socks provided by you.  All teams wear grey pants.
  6. Protective Gear:

    • Cup and Athletic Supporter: Highly recommended for safety, especially for catchers.
    • Chest Protector shirt:  Worn under the uniform to protect chest from impacts.

Optional but Recommended Items

  1. Batting Gloves:

    • Helps reduce blisters and improve grip on the bat.
  2. Sliding Shorts:

    • Provides extra padding for sliding into bases.
  3. Baseball Bag:

    • A sturdy bag to carry all gear, including bats, gloves, and helmets.
  4. Sunglasses:

    • Reduces glare during sunny games and helps players track the ball.
  5. Water Bottle:

    • Staying hydrated is crucial during practices and games.

Game-Day Extras

  • Team Hat: Ensure your child’s hat is part of the uniform.
  • Snacks: Pack a light, healthy snack for energy.
  • Sun Protection: Sunscreen, a cooling towel, and lip balm with SPF.

Tips for Parents

  • Label all equipment with your child’s name to avoid mix-ups.
  • Check gear regularly for wear and tear to ensure safety.
  • Pack gear the night before to avoid last-minute stress.

By following this checklist, your young athlete will be fully prepared to take the field and enjoy the season with confidence. Let’s play ball!
