1st/2nd Grade Rec

Edgewood Girls Youth Basketball Rules

  1. Basketball size will be 27.5”.

  2. Hoops are 9.0” rims.

  3. All players MUST have equal playing time substitutions are made at the 3 minute mark each quarter. Do this at the nearest dead ball, do not stop a mid play.

  4. No jewelry can be worn during the game.

  5. 1 certified ref per game.

  6. All games will be (4) 6-minute quarters. Running clock with one stoppage at the 3-minute mark to sub out players. There will be a 2-minute halftime. Clock is stop and go for the last 1 minute of each half. Unless there is a 15 point lead then the clock continues to run. 

  7. If overtime is necessary, it is one period only at 3 minutes. 1 timeout given. Jump ball is administered. Teams go the same way as they were at the end of regulation. If after one overtime, the game is still tied. The result is a tie.

  8. The home team will oversee the clock. The away team manages the book recording of both teams.

  9. The book keeper needs to record:

    • Running score

    • Individual fouls

    • Team fouls

    • Timeouts

  10. The score will be kept for all games and reported after each game. Records at the end of the year will be used for seeding purposes in the end of year tournament.

  11. To start each game, each player will shoot a free throw from the designated free throw spot. Each team will need to shoot the same number of free throws (if one team has more players than the other, some players on the opposing team will need to shoot twice). The total of free throws made will be added to the score to start the game. The free throw line is 18 inches in from the free throw line.

  12. Each game starts with a jump ball. With alternating possession arrow the rest of the game for each quarter.

  13. No double-teaming. Man to man defense only. Wristbands will be used to match up players.

  14. Full court press is only allowed in the last two minutes of the game.(look at after registration or after x week)

  15. No full court press if the lead is 15 points or more.

  16. In overtime full court press is allowed the entire period.

  17. Weeks 1-2 of the season in the first half are coaching moments on violations (double dribble and traveling). The second half will result in turnovers. At week 3 all violations will result in a turnover.

  18. At the 7th team foul per quarter, a 2 shot bonus free throw is awarded. Free throws are shot 18 inches in from the free throw line.

  19. Fouls are counted but no player can foul out. (due to roster limitations)

  20. Once a technical is assessed on the bench, no coaches are allowed to stand during the game. 

  21. Scoreboard operators and scorekeepers are to refrain from coaching, critiquing officials, yelling, and making any noise at all during the game unless it is a question for the officials about reporting a foul or timeout. If they are not capable of this, they should not be sitting at the scorer’s table. At the scorer’s table you must remain neutral and quiet.

  22. Ejections of coaches, players, and spectators will result in a 4 game league suspension for the offender. A suspension means that the offending person is not allowed in the gym during the suspension. A coach, player, or spectator may not watch their team play, may not keep the book, and may not run the scoreboard during the suspension. Any willful violation of this policy by a team or organization will put that organization’s future participation in the program in jeopardy. 

  23.  Fighting and/or throwing punches may result in a season long suspension for the very first occurrence. This is at the board's discretion. 

  24.  A second ejection in the season will result in a suspension for the rest of the league year. 

  25.  All suspensions and appeals are at the sole discretion of the board. 

  26. All other rules are per OHSAA/NFHS standards

  4. No jewelry can be worn during the game.
