Dear EGSL Families,
We wanted to send out an update to you all on the upcoming 50th season which is due to start on April 1st, 2020. As the COVID-19 pandemic evolves, we are unsure of when we will be able to start our 50th
season. We have been directed by the city of Cranston that all city
recreational fields have been closed indefinitely until the city is
given the all clear from the Governor. This means that we cannot begin
practices or games until we are given the appropriate approval from city
officials. Additionally, our affiliated organization, USA Softball RI
(ASA) has advised us that there will be no umpires scheduled for games
and they are following direction from cities and the state on when they
will start to allow umpires to be scheduled for games.
However, we are NOT ready to throw in the towel just yet!!!!!!
We are putting the season on hold….NOT CANCELLING.
Take this time to slow down and enjoy time with your immediate
families. Learn new things, appreciate what you have and what you miss.
The board will continue to keep on top of the situation as it develops
but we are cancelling anything in the pipeline for the season to
mitigate any costs to the league since this is all beyond our or
anyone’s control. We are looking at ways to still get our 50th season in
when we get the all clear from city and state leaders as well as USA
Softball RI. We are thinking later start date, less events, double
headers on Saturdays, and trying to utilize every ounce of field time
when we are able to resume. I think we can all agree that once it is
safe to do so that we could all use a sense of normalcy in our daily
routines which include EGSL Spring softball!
