Rome Girls Softball League (RGSL) was founded in 1977 by a very generous donation by Rome Family Sports Mart, a family run sports store that is no longer in business today.  The first softball games were actually played at the old Rome National Little League fields. The newly founded league had about 30 girls ages 6-16 in 1977. It expanded to close to 100 girls the next year.

Currently RGSL has a softball complex of our own, John Kost Memorial Complex located behind MVCC in Rome NY.  We have 4 of the best fields in central NY and are home to Spring/Summer Rec leagues, Rome Spirit travel teams as well as RFA Softball.  In years prior to the pandemic RGSL would have as many as 200 girls ages 5-17 playing in our leagues.  RGSL also hosts 3 summer travel tournaments throughout the summer which helps raise money for our rec leagues and facilities.  In 2019 we had field 1 completely redone and currently redoing field 2 with plans to redo field 4 in  the spring of 2023.  Field 3 is planned for fall of 2023.

The board members of RGSL are dedicated and committed to giving the children of our league the best experience possible by providing them with the best fields, fair and competitive softball experiences with creating life long memories with friends and family.
