Lobos
United FC was founded in 2007 in Livingston, CA, a small community largely made
up of migrant farmworkers, by James and Hilda Olivera. James and Hilda
coached in the local recreational program and were also part owners of an
indoor soccer arena in a neighboring town. Seeing the talent evident in
the local youth of Livingston and the lack of a competitive programs to nourish
it, they decided to form their own club enlisting other like-minded individuals
willing to volunteer their time.
Their
inspiration to start Lobos came from a group of high school aged boys James
would see playing street soccer at all hours of the day and almost daily.
This was a group of players with raw talent who were very entertaining to
watch. One afternoon he approached the young men offering them an
opportunity to play in the adult league at the indoor arena. After
realizing the boys could not afford the entry fee and knowing they were
talented enough to compete he offered them a free spot in the league.
They went on to dominate for a few seasons with their intricate passing game
and technical creativity, so much so that they forced their opponents to step
up their game. This group of impressive players called themselves Lobos.
We
named our club after those young men because of their young and vibrant
style. They inspired us as to how we want Lobos United FC to play and to
raise that standard of play with creativity and youthfulness; because
ultimately, the game belongs to them: the youth.
