Every year I get asked who the name on our Championship Trophy is. The Terry White Award is our top prize in the TVBA and is awarded at the conclusion of the TVBA Final Four. To date there are over 125 Gold balls in trophy cases throughout Southern Tennessee, Northern Mississippi and all over Alabama.
Terry White coached his entire career at Anderson Elementary School. He spent over 30 years teaching math and coaching girls and boys basketball. His records were second to none and his Rebels compiled 19 county tournament Championships during his tenure. It`s hard to know exactly how many games he won because he wouldn't tell anyone. But between 1979-1999 his girls teams went 283-40, the average margin of victory was 22 pts. Out scoring opponents by 5,000 points in that stretch.something else interesting during the 90`s his teams were 179-12. Many of those same young ladies that Terry White coached went on to play on Lauderdale County High School State Championship teams. LCHS is the winning est girls program in AHSAA history. Terry`s values of hard work, love of basketball and enthusiasm was deeply instilled in all those who played for him. So in honor of a basketball sage. David Cox and myself decided to name the TVBA award in Terry`s honor. So when you hit the floor remember, play hard, have fun and love what you do.
