Becoming Certified: New Referees
The process to become a new referee is broken up into steps: online work, in-person clinic, working games. In order to work games you must follow the below steps.
1. The certification and recertification tasks are completed at www.minnesotasrc.com.
2. Create a new account.
3. Complete eight hours of online work (does not need to be completed in one sitting).
**You will not be able to attend an in-person clinic without having first completed the online work.**
4. Attend in-person referee clinic (8 hours; one day in March or April).
Becoming Certified: Returning Referees
All referees working games must annually “re-certify”. While clinics are available to attend, all re-certification work may be completed entirely online at www.minnesotasrc.com.
Working Games
All games are assigned out of www.gameofficials.net. Upon finishing your in-person clinic, you should set up an account and profile on this site. Payment (via direct deposit) is also initiated out of this system.

FAQ:
Q: What is the minimum age requirement for becoming a referee?
A: This largely varies by the individual. We usually use 11 as a guideline for a good place to start.
Q: How will you ensure that my son or daughter is placed in situations appropriate to their age?
A: This is a big part of the assigning process. We want to place your son or daughter in situations they will succeed in. You have the ability to indicate preferences to be an Assistant Referee only, for example, and we largely factor in age and experience into the assigning process.
Q: What is the time requirement?
A: As an independent contractor, you have the ability to set your referee schedule around other life events, such as games or practices.
Q: How much can I make?
A: A lot! League matches pay anywhere from $25-$70 depending on the age of the players and tournaments on the weekends earn multiples of those figures. It’s possible to make $300+ in one weekend!
Q: Can/should adults referee?
A: Absolutely. It’s a great way to stay involved with the game and earn extra money by being on the soccer field.
Q: What if I have other questions?
A: Reach out to Tyler Dalsin at [email protected].
