Q&A

What division does my child need to be in?
-Divisions are determined by a player’s age as of August 31st of the prior year.

E.g. if a player was born 6/6/2013. That player is 11 and needs to be in the 12U division.

My player is 3 and turns 4 this upcoming August. Can they play?
No, ages are calculated as of the year prior to the season. They will be eligible for the next season.

What if my child qualifies for multiple divisions?
-Settings on divisions allow younger players to participate in older divisions based on experience and skill level.
E.g. if a player was born 6/6/2016. That player is 8. They have the option to stay in the 8U division or move up to 10U. This decision is up to the parent and player.

My child is 13, why is there an option to play 12U or 15U?
If a player turns 13  in September of last year but they have registered for 12U division. This is correct and the child remains eligible because they were 12 as of August 31st.

My child will have a birthday during the season, does this affect their eligibility for the current season age divisions?
No, a player may age up, such as turn 13 while playing in 12U division,  during the current season and remain in the division in which they registered for the remainder of that season.  Next year they will need to move up.

What if I want my child to play in a much older division than offered?
(My child is 10 but I want to sign them up for the 15U division, but I do not see it as an option.)
-Age divisions have restrictions set on them by the board for a combination of reasons including but not limited to: safety concerns for each individual player and in the interest of keeping divisions evenly drafted.

I still would like my child to play in an older division than offered. May I appeal the decision?
-Yes. An appeal may be made with the board to allow a younger player to play with an older division by sending a message to [email protected]
Messages must include the player's name, age, and why you are requesting an older division for your child. The board will discuss and reach an agreement. The board may ask to assess your child’s skill level to aid in the decision making process.
*If an older division is full of age appropriate players then a younger player must stay with their respective age division for the season regardless of an appeal.

Can my child play in a younger division?
No, each player must play within their appropriate age division. A player may play for an older division but not a younger one.
Any illegal players drafted to a team could result in fines to the league and/or disqualifications for the entire team and possibly the league from future participation with TTAS.

Does my child have to try out for a team?
-No the Fairfield Girls Softball league is open to all players of all skill levels.

Does my child need to be present for the draft?
-No. Players do not have to be present for the draft. Drafts are optional but and usually closed. If an open draft is hosted you will be notified and invited to attend, but your player will be drafted to a team either way.
Once your child is assigned to a team, that coach will contact you with their contact information and information for the season.

How much does it cost for my child to play?
-The registration fee for the league is $875/player. $10 Sibling discounts are offered making each subsequent player $75ea.

E.g the first registered child will be $85, if a player has 2 siblings their registration fee will be $75ea making the total $235

We live in Teague, can my child still play for Fairfield?
-No, a player must play for the town in which they reside.
Exceptions to this rule include: in the event a town does not make an eligible team for that player’s respected age division, that player may play for the closest town adjoining to theirs which has an appropriate age division team available.

What documents and forms do I need for my child to play?
-With the initial draft no documentation is required. However, parents will be asked to submit copies of their child’s birth certificates which are submitted with each team’s official roster for tournament play.
Please email to
[email protected] or provide a paper COPY to your coach or a board member. Please do not submit original documentation.
