BACKGROUND CHECKS

The #1 priority of Twin Valley Baseball Association is the safety and protection of our players, volunteers, and families!

The safety and wellbeing of young players is a primary concern of the International Babe Ruth League organization and of local league officials, team managers, and coaches. This is the main reason Babe Ruth International Headquarters stresses essential components of effective accident prevention.

Babe Ruth League requires all managers, coaches, and volunteers with active engagement with players register with their National Athletic Safety Program for Background Checks and Abuse Prevention Training. Babe Ruth League, Inc. chartered leagues are required to conduct a nationwide background check on all Managers, Coaches, Board of Directors, and any other persons, volunteers, or hired workers, who provide regular service to the league and/or have repetitive access to, or contact with players. Once a volunteer has successfully completed the background check, it is valid for a two (2) year period from the date of completion.

Babe Ruth League Inc. rostered managers and coaches in all Divisions are required to complete coaching education, nationwide background checks and abuse prevention training in accordance with the Safe Sports Act.

SAFE SPORTS ACT

WHAT IS THE SAFE SPORTS ACT?

The Safe Sport Authorization Act requires Olympic governing bodies and amateur sports organizations to report sex abuse allegations immediately to local or federal law enforcement, or a child welfare agency designated by the US Justice Department.

  • On February 14, 2018, the President signed the “Safe Sports Act"
  • This federal law created the need for abuse prevention training for people working in all youth sports.
  •  It also created mandatory reporting requirements that if not followed could impose a $125,000 federal civil judgment.
