FAQs

Box Lacrosse Program:

  • Our goal with the Summer Box Lacrosse program is to provide opportunity for exposure to the indoor version of the game in a fun, competitive lacrosse program outside the normal spring season. Expectations by parents should be based on their player having fun, developing new skills, and learning the different format of Box Lacrosse. See USA Lacrosse - Benefits of Box Lacrosse
  • No previous experience is required for any LA Jazz team at any level.
  • HS players are expected to have their own lacrosse equipment, including rib pads (required). 
  • Limited sets of equipment may be available to rent on first come, first serve basis for new players.

Box Lacrosse Practices and Games:

  • Practices and games will be held in JUL-AUG at Jefferson Indoor Sports, Harahan, LA

Box Lacrosse Uniforms:

  • LA Jazz pinnies will be available for order but are not required. 
  • Other items such as team shorts, shooters, etc are optional and available from the LA Jazz Team Store link
  • Shorts - all black shorts are recommended for practice & games if not wearing team shorts.

Rules:



Summer Teams:

  • Our goal with these teams is to provide opportunity to continue playing in fun competitive lacrosse events outside the normal spring season. Expectations by parents should be based on their child having fun, developing skills and wanting to continue playing. We may 'travel' to play other local teams.
  • All youth age groups are affiliated through the Louisiana Chapter of US Lacrosse.
  • No previous experience is required for any LA Jazz team at any level.
  • Equipment is available to rent on first come, first serve basis for the summer season.

Tryouts:

  • No tryouts are required. Players will be assigned to a team by grade and gender

Practices:

  • Practices will be held in May at Chapapeela Park in Hammond
Uniforms:

  • LA Jazz pinnies will be provided w/ registration fee.
  • Other items such as team shorts, shooters, etc are optional and available from the team store link
  • Shorts - all black shorts are required for practice & games if not wearing team shorts.

Rules:

  • Games follow US Lacrosse Youth rules for each age group: Boys Rules / Girls Rules
  • There are no body checks for Boys 5/6 grade and younger. Legal body checks are allowed in Boys 7/8 grade.
  • Legal pushes, holds, and stick checks are permitted for Coed 3/4 grade and Boys 5/6 & 7/8.

Equipment Requirements:

  • Boys and Girls grades K-4:   Rental gear provided (with deposit)  **Players have option to provide own equipment
  • Boys grades 5/6, 7/8:   Required - Uniform, helmet, shoulder pads, elbow pads, gloves, stick, cup and mouth guard
  • Girls grades 5/6, 7/8 & HS:   Required - Uniform, stick, goggles and mouth guards
