MAD DOGS LACROSSE FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Who can play? MAD DOGS LACROSSE (MDLAX) is open to boys who reside in the Middle Country School District. Depending upon their date of birth. MDLAX is open to boys grades K through 6. New participants are welcome to join MDLAX in any season.
How do you register to play? All registration and payment is done through the MDLAX website. Each parent must register their child for each season they wish to participate.
What does my registration fee go towards? The fee covers uniforms, winter indoor practices, referees and officials, team equipment (goalie equipment, goals, nets, balls cones, etc.), medical kits, year-end celebration. MDLAX has kept our registration fees consistently low for the past number of years, allowing more new players to play a great sport.
Is there a multi-player discount? Yes! Depending on the program, we offer a mutli-player discount after the full registration fee for first player. And we offer an Early Registration Discount.
Does MDLAX supply equipment? MDLAX does not provide equipment for players - we do provide uniforms; however, MDLAX has a limited supply of used equipment to loan individuals in financial need. We also partner with DSG for coupons.
What equipment is required? Required equipment for boys: stick, gloves, arm pads, shoulder pads, helmet, mouth guard and athletic supporter/cup.
Where can I purchase equipment? Equipment can be purchased from various sporting goods stores and online retailers. For your convenience, we have added some area stores and online retailers to the equipment page found under parent resources.
Does MDLAX supply uniforms? Yes! Uniforms are included in your registration fee. For jersey numbers, we will try to accommodate requests, however jersey numbers are NOT guaranteed. Unfortunately, since players can play up or be a part of a combo team during a season, the number requests can no longer be guaranteed since we cannot guarantee that they can keep that number the following season.
How are teams divided? Teams are broken into divisions by age or grade based on registration numbers and in accordance with LI Lacrosse Registration procedures. There are certain rules that have no exceptions - No 2nd grader can play up onto a 3rd grade team. LI LACROSSE SPRING 2025 GRADE RULES
Do all kids make a team? THERE ARE NO CUTS. All boys will make a MDLAX team. Please note that players are expected to attend practice regularly and a coach can reduce playing time if a player's behavior/lack of attendance is considered disruptive or dangerous. PAL PLAY TIME RULES
Can I make a request to be on a certain team? Teams are broken into divisions by age or grade based on registration numbers and in accordance with LI Lacrosse Registration procedures.
When does lacrosse season start? Spring is the primary lacrosse season; the season usually starts at the end of March. K1 teams have a weekly in-house clinic. Grades 2-6 will have a standard season (6 games for 2nd/8 games for 3-6). MDLAX also offers summer and fall clinics. As part of our PAL season, we include weekly winter indoor lacrosse practice.
For Spring lacrosse, how many practices and games are there each week? Most teams will have practice two times a week with games on Sundays. Older boys may practice an additional day.
Where are games played? Games are played at our home field at Dawnwood MS and Centereach HS and each towns respective home field throughout Suffolk County.
What age group should my child play in? Lacrosse teams are based upon date of birth/grade.
How do parents and players keep updated with MDLAX? Check the MDLAX website: www.mcmaddogs.org for general information, schedules, cancellations, training tips etc. During the season you can also contact your child’s coach or team parent. You can also download our app – look for Stack Team under your phone’s app store, download it and look for Mad Dogs Lacrosse.
What is MDLAX all about? MDLAX is an all-volunteer organization. We do our best to give players the best lacrosse experience. The goal is to give all players a solid foundational education in lacrosse.
We are not a travel program – however many players do play in the more competitive travel programs. Please remember this when the players are on the field. Not all players have the same skill set.
Are the coaches certified? All MDLAX coaches must complete a background check each year, as well complete Bronze certification from US Lacrosse.

What is U.S. Lacrosse? The national governing body of men's and women's lacrosse. All players are required to be memberrs of U.S. Lacrosse. Their website is http://www.uslacrosse.org.
