CHYAA Cheerleading FAQ

 When is cheerleading season?

  • Practice begins the third week of July with games starting in mid-August. The regular season runs through October.
  • Playoffs/Championship goes through mid-November.

How are squads created?

  • All Cheerleaders must cheer for the grade level being entered in the fall. This is a rule of the Gwinnett Football League. The sole exception is for Mascots who will be in kindergarten during the fall. Mascots can join any team.
  •  1stsand 2nd Grade are a combined squad, 3rd-thGrade are individual squads.

·
Wat is the practice schedule?

  • Each team creates their own practice schedule; however, you can expect to practice 3 days a week for 90 minutes. Elementary grades practice earlier in the evening, typically 6:00-7:30 or 6:30-8:00pm, and Middle School grades practice later, typically 7:30-9:00pm.

Where is practice held?

  • Practice is at Rock Springs Football Park
  • 2950 Spriggs Road, Lawrenceville, GA

·
What is the game schedule?

  • Games are played every Saturday from mid-August to the end of October with one bye week.
  • All GFL teams have a bye week for GCPS Fall Break. There will be no practices or games during this week.
  • Games are played in age/grade order at different host parks each week. Games begin at 9am and go throughout the day with the 8th grade games beginning at 7:30pm.
  • A game schedule is distributed to the team and parents in August.

Is any experience necessary?

  • No! CHAA Cheerleading under GFL is a learning league. There is no prior cheer experience needed. Each squad starts with the basics each season. All cheerleaders attend a stunt clinic to safely learn allowed stunts.

Do we compete?

  • Yes! We participate in the annual GFL Cheer Off that is held in the fall.
  • Please note, it is not mandatory for your cheerleader to compete. If your cheerleader does not want to participate in Cheer Off they will be excused from Cheer Off practices and activities.
  • Please note, missed Cheer Off practices will result in your cheerleader being removed from the Cheer Off routine and competition.

Is practice mandatory?

  • Yes. It’s important for all cheerleaders to be present at all practices. If a practice must be missed, please be sure to communicate the dates with your coach as soon as possible. Please keep in mind that a cheerleader may be sat for a halftime performance if they have missed practice. This is a safety rule to make sure all cheerleaders are prepared and ready to avoid any injuries.

When is registration?

  • Cheer registration opens in mid-March and closes the first week of June
  • Registration is completed online. Registration links will be posted on our website along with our social media pages.

What is the cost of registration?

  • Registration costs vary from season to season. A detailed registration flyer will be posted prior to registration opening that includes the cost breakdown for the season.

How are payments made/When are payments due?

  • Payments can be made through our online registration system. We offer multiple payment plan options that divide the payments into smaller amounts that stretch from registration opening to August 1st.
  • Cash payments are accepted, however, please note that if you would like to pay with cash you must reach out to the cheerleading director. Cash payments must be made in full in one transaction.

What are fittings? Is it necessary to come if I already know my child’s sizes?

    • Yes! Fittings are when we have all of our apparel representatives available to try on size runs for each piece of apparel that we will order for your child. It is necessary to be at fittings to ensure proper fit. Our uniforms are custom made to your child’s measurements. It is your responsibility to approve the recommended sizes. This is the only opportunity that we will have to have access to all of the size runs, so please make it a priority to attend. This is also for camp wear, jacket, and any spirit wear you may want to order.
