Madrid Soccer Association is always looking for motivated youth and adults to referee for our games in Madrid. There are two options for you to consider.
If you want to start as young as 12 we have an "in-house" program for younger refs or any age to try out reffing for a season and see how they like it. In this program you will be trained by a current Referee for Madrid Soccer. This will be a short in-person training to go over the basics of reffing a soccer game. When you have gone through the training you will be allowed to choose games to ref for ages U4-U8. These younger teams need to have a ref to monitor the game and make calls so order is maintained. You will need a whistle and the ability to make yourself heard over the commotion of the game. The "Ref Assignor" will keep track of games that you ref for the season and will pay you at the end of the season for the games you were able to ref. There will be a "ref Assignor" or mentor who will attend the first game you ref to make sure you are comfortable and understand the job. 
You will also be given the opportunity to line judge for U9-U10 games in Madrid. There will be a certified ref to be the "center" ref and will maintain control of the game and you will be assisting by letting the center ref know when the ball goes out of bounds and help with other calls. 

If you are 14 or older and want to become a certified ref, there is a training offered through Iowa Soccer Association. This training includes an "in-person" training and some online trainings. There is a fee for this training but Madrid Soccer offers to reimburse you when the training is completed and you have passed to become a certified ref. When you are a certified ref you will be allowed to ref anywhere in the state of Iowa. If Madrid Soccer does reimburse you for the training we ask that you put Madrid as top priority for filling our ref needs. Madrid Soccer will also provide a yellow ref shirt that you will wear to games when you are reffing.
