Inclement Weather Policy

Heat and Humidity
Whether dry heat or high levels of humidity, when the temperature rises, caution
must be exercised. If a player is thirsty, it's already a sign that they are becoming
dehydrated. Encourage players to drink at least eight (8) ounces of water or
Gatorade drink at least every 15 minutes, and find ways to give players a break in
the shade. Heat-related injuries are some of the easiest weather issues to prevent.

The Sun
Sunlight can have damaging effects on the skin. Not only is a sunburn painful,
but each instance of such an injury can increase someone's chances of developing
skin cancer. The Sun Protection Factor (SPF) of a sunscreen indicates how many
times longer it takes for the user to develop skin damage from the sun. Be sure
parents are properly protecting their kids by ensuring they apply sunscreen while
dressing for a game or practice, even under their uniforms. Sunscreen should be
reapplied frequently, at least on the arms and face, as sweating can wash it away.

Rain/Thunder and Lightening
• In the event that playing conditions become too wet or unsafe for general use to
continue play due to inclement weather, the Northwood Youth Baseball
Organization will Send out a message via email or text to notify coaches and
parents within 1 hours of game start time. Inclement weather notifications can
also be followed via social media.
• When thunderstorms with lightning or severe weather patterns are witnessed:
1. If at scheduled game time or after the game starts, the Coaches and
Umpires on site will make a determination whether to cancel the game(s) due to
inclement weather
2. If thunderstorms w/lightning, all players and coaches will exit the
playing field and seek shelter in cars until the storm passes. An automatic 30-
minute delay will occur with thunder and/or lightning and the time will reset
with each strike until a 30-minuteperiod has passed without any thunder and/or
lightning to continue play.
