The Thunder Lax Experience
Our Mission
To develop essential life skills in young athletes through lacrosse and grow the game by increasing a player, parent, and community love for the sport.
Lacrosse is the vehicle. Character is the destination.
What Makes Thunder Lax Different
We're Building More Than Players
At Thunder Lax, every practice, every drill, and every game is an opportunity for growth that extends far beyond the field. We use lacrosse as a training ground for life - teaching young athletes how to handle adversity, lead their peers, and take ownership of their development.
We're Growing the Game in Middle Tennessee
As lacrosse continues to establish itself in our community, we're not just teaching stick skills - we're creating a culture. We want players to fall in love with the sport, parents to understand its value, and our community to rally around the fastest game on two feet.
We're Preparing Future High School Champions
Our vision is clear: equip southern Williamson County high school lacrosse teams to compete for state championships. That means developing fundamentally sound, mentally tough, team-oriented players who are ready to contribute from day one. And yes - it means being ready to BEAT BRENTWOOD!
How We Develop Athletes
Embracing Adversity as Growth
Growth doesn't happen in comfort zones. Our practices deliberately challenge players physically, mentally, and emotionally - not to break them down, but to build them up.
- Physically: Conditioning, skill repetition, and competitive drills that push players to improve
- Mentally: Game situations that require quick thinking and strategic decision-making
- Emotionally: Learning to handle mistakes, support teammates through struggles, and bounce back from setbacks
We create an environment where failure is a teacher, effort is celebrated, and perseverance is expected.
Believing in Our Athletes as Leaders
Every player on our roster has leadership potential - whether they're naturally vocal or lead by example. We don't wait for high school to develop leaders; we start now.
Our coaches mentor players to:
- Communicate effectively with teammates
- Hold themselves and others accountable
- Make decisions under pressure
- Lift up struggling teammates
- Model the behavior they want to see
Leadership isn't a position - it's a responsibility we all share.
The Accepting But Expecting Mindset
We accept every player exactly where they are in their development - whether they're a first-time athlete or a seasoned competitor. No judgment. No comparison to others.
But we expect every player to:
- Give their best effort
- Show up ready to learn
- Support their teammates
- Improve from where they started
- Take responsibility for their role
You don't have to be the best player on the field. You do have to be committed to becoming better than you were yesterday.
Controlling What We Can Control
Life throws curveballs. Refs make bad calls. Weather changes plans. Opponents are tough. In lacrosse and in life, we can't control everything - but we can always control three things:
Our Energy - The attitude and effort we bring to every moment Our Intensity - How hard we compete and prepare Our Focus - Where we direct our attention and commitment
These three elements are non-negotiables. Master them on the lacrosse field, and you'll carry them into classrooms, future careers, and relationships.
The Results We're Creating
Young Men and Women Prepared for Life
Thunder Lax alumni don't just become better lacrosse players - they become better people. Our players develop:
- Resilience to handle setbacks and keep pushing forward
- Confidence to try new things and trust their abilities
- Accountability to own their mistakes and learn from them
- Empathy to support teammates and value different perspectives
- Work ethic to understand that results require consistent effort
These aren't lacrosse skills. These are life skills that will serve them long after they hang up their cleats.
High School Teams Ready to Compete for Championships
Our ultimate program goal is simple: prepare southern Williamson County lacrosse to win state titles.
That means:
- Teaching proper fundamentals that translate to high school competition
- Building lacrosse IQ so players understand the game strategically
- Developing toughness - mental and physical - to compete in high-pressure moments
- Creating a feeder system where players arrive at high school ready to contribute
- Fostering the competitive fire to BEAT BRENTWOOD
We're not just participating. We're preparing to win.
Our Core Values in Action
These aren't words on a wall - they're the daily standards we live by:
Teamwork
Lacrosse requires all ten players working in sync. We celebrate assists as much as goals. We pick up teammates when they're struggling. Success is shared; failure is collective. No one succeeds alone.
Communication
Talking on the field isn't optional - it's essential. From calling out picks to encouraging a teammate to directing defensive slides, communication makes average players good and good players great. We teach players to use their voices.
Leadership
Every player has the opportunity to lead - whether it's demonstrating a drill with excellence, encouraging a struggling teammate, or holding the standard when energy drops. Leadership is action, not a title.
Decision Making
Lacrosse happens fast. Players must read defenses, recognize opportunities, and make split-second choices under pressure. We put players in situations where they must decide, act, and learn from the outcome. Decision-making is a skill we deliberately develop.
Attention to Detail
Championships are won in the details. Proper footwork. Stick protection. Defensive positioning. Communication calls. We don't gloss over fundamentals - we obsess over them. Excellence is built through disciplined execution of small things.
Personal Responsibility
Excuses don't make you better. Taking ownership does. Whether it's showing up on time, completing stick work at home, or acknowledging a mental error, we expect players to own their development. No one else can do the work for you.
What Parents Can Expect
Transparent Communication We'll keep you informed about schedules, expectations, and your child's development. We're partners in this process.
A Challenging But Supportive Environment We push players because we believe in them. Coaches will demand effort and accountability while providing encouragement and instruction.
Development Over Wins While we're competitive and play to win, we prioritize long-term player development over short-term results. We make coaching decisions based on what's best for players' growth.
Opportunities for Involvement From volunteering at events to understanding the game better, we welcome parent engagement. You don't need to know lacrosse - just be willing to support the program.
A Community Thunder Lax families become part of something bigger. You'll connect with other families who share your values and watch your kids grow alongside their peers.
