Volunteer Certification Policy
Ocean Springs Baseball Organization has a legal requirement to ensure volunteers have a favorable Background Check (JDP) and have completed Abuse Awareness Training (USA Baseball). OSBO will make all efforts to protect our athletes. To accomplish this our league requires a Volunteer Certification Policy that will be adhered to by any/all volunteers who have direct access to athletes throughout the season.
REQUIREMENTS
IMPLEMENTATION
1. Background checks will be initiated by the league through JDP. Once initiated you have 14 days* to complete the security questionnaire for processing.
*An extension may be granted depending on justifiable reasons.
2. Abuse Awareness Training will be initiated and completed by the volunteer through USABDevelops.com.
PENALTY
- If either requirement is not completed within the 14-day timeline that the background check is initiated, the volunteer will receive a warning and given a 7-day extension.
- After the extension if either requirement is not completed, the volunteer will be placed on 7-day suspension and no longer authorized to conduct baseball duties with players.
- The volunteer will be required to complete the missing requirement(s) during the suspension but will serve the full term of the suspension.
- If either requirement is not complete after the initial suspension, the volunteer will remain on suspended status until:
a. The missing requirement(s) is(are) completed.
b. The volunteer is removed from league activities indefinitely.
FOLLOW UP
OSBO does not want to see athletes forgo development due to lack of practices or forfeit games because of a Volunteer Certification Policy violation. Our number one priority is and must be the safety and security of our athletes. OSBO will make all efforts to support athletes in the event a volunteer is suspended/removed from a team. As parents who support our athletes and our league, we must be ready and willing to step in to support these athletes and our league. The OSBO Board will also make attempts to have other certified coaches or board members stand in to continue our athlete’s development should a suspension/removal occur.
