Skills Camps are for players of varying ages (grades 4-12) and ability levels (beginner to advanced) who are interested in developing their skill set, refining their technical game, and having fun. We focus on foundational skills and apply them to both offensive and defensive aspects of field hockey. Skills Camps are an individual skills based program that also incorporates small sided games and competition.
Skills Camps will be divided into groups based on age and ability level in order to maximize learning and cooperation. We will utilize both Anderson Field, which is a premier water-based AstroTurf, and our in-fill turf field. Campers will received excellent instruction from Messiah's coaching staff, current players and alumnae.
Messiah University will implement safety protocols and strategies closer to the time of the camp, in accordance with CDC and PA DOH guidelines in order to minimize risk of spread of COVID-19. You can expect these guidelines to include recording your temperature and a symptom assessment each day, social distancing, frequent hand sanitation, etc. Camper safety is our highest priority and Messiah University reserves the right to cancel camp, if necessary, in order to comply with local, state, and federal guidelines.
In addition to field player training we offer goalkeeper training at both Skills Camps. They train together with our goalkeeper coaches and will be added to small sided games and drills when necessary. Goalies must bring their own goalie gear to our Skills Camps. If you want your athlete to receive goalie training, you will be given the opportunity to sign up for it in the online registration process. What to bring:
• Footwear: Molded cleats, sneakers, and/or turf shoes (if desired)
•Field hockey stick, shin guards, and mouth guard.
• Sun screen.
• Bring a water bottle (with their name on it) that your athlete can carry from station to station.
Athletic Training: There will be a Certified Athletic Trainer present at all times of camp. The Athletic Trainer will be available to meet with you prior to our first session if you have any questions or preexisting injuries.
Due to COVID19 restrictions regarding indoor space we are not able to hold our Skills Camps if there is Thunder/Lightning. If inclement weather occurs we will look to be flexible and start camp late or end camp early.
Please check your email regularly as this is our primary way to communicate. Any additional information that we need to convey as the camp draws closer will be passed on to you via the e-mail address that you supplied when you registered for camp.
Our website vendor has now added a $3 service fee for every transaction. If you sign up multiple campers at the same time you only pay the one $3 service fee per transaction.
