Participating in All-Stars
Participation on an All-Star team is a privilege for managers, coaches, and players. All-Star teams will be representing NASA Area Little League and should do so with a high level of sportsmanship and integrity.
Basic Rules and Ages
Little League International (Williamsport, PA) rules state that only players that live or go to school within our league boundaries are eligible to participate on our All-Star tournament teams.
Little League International officially recognizes All-Star tournament teams at three divisions. For simplicity, NALL refers to them as 10U, 11U, and 12U. NALL is part of District 14, which encompasses Little League organizations on the southeast side of Houston. For quite some time, District 14 has instituted All-Star tournament play at younger divisions as well, beginning at Coach Pitch. Again, for simplicity, we refer to those teams as 7U, 8U, and 9U.
This accounts for a total of six age divisions, meaning NALL attempts to field six or more teams.
Manager Selection
All coaches will be asked if they would like to be considered for an All-Star management position. It is not a requirement to have a kid in the league or on the All-Star team to be considered for a manager position.
Once all requests for managers have been received, a three-person committee will decide the coach at each age group. The committee should consist of the League President, VP of Baseball Operations, and Player Agent for that age group. If any of these individuals are up for a manager position in any age group, they will be replaced by another Executive Board member.
Once the manager is selected, they will be notified and asked to submit their assistant coaches to the committee for approval. The committee has the right to veto any assistant coaches without cause.
Voting and Selection Process
All managers that have managed in specific age groups will be voting on kids for All-Stars. Managers will be asked to rank the top 20 kids per age group in order 1-20. Players ranked first on manager lists will receive 20 points on down to players ranked 20th will receive 1 point. At the conclusion of the voting process the top 20 vote point getters will be ranked in order and a list will be given to the manager. The manager will then meet with the selection committee for that age group to select his/her team. The number of kids on each All-Star team is up to the manager. If the manager does not wish to pick one of the kids that is in the top 3 of points received, they will need to justify it to the Executive Board. Likewise, if a manager feels they need to pick any kid that isn’t on the list of top 20 then a meeting with the Executive Board shall be held.
Parent Information
Prior to the voting process starting, all parents will be notified via email from NALL. Parents have the right to opt out if they do not wish to have their child eligible for All-Stars. Important dates will be given letting parents know when they should be available for tournament play. Most All-Star teams will practice every day until their season is complete.
