Parent's Code of Conduct

WFSC CODE OF ETHICS PARENTS/SPECTATORS CONTRACT AGREEMENT:

The essential elements of character-building and ethics in sports are embodied in the concept of sportsmanship and six core principles: trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and good citizenship. The highest potential of sports is achieved when competition reflects these Pillars of Character. I therefore agree:

● I will encourage good sportsmanship by demonstrating positive support for all players, coaches, game officials, and administrators at all times.

● I will emphasize skill development and practices and how they benefit my child over winning.  I will promote the emotional and physical well-being of the athletes ahead of any personal desire I may have for my child to win.

● I will support the coaches, officials, and administrators working with my child, in order to encourage a positive and enjoyable experience for all.

● I will remember that the game is for the players, not for the adults.

● I will ask my child to treat other players, coaches, game officials, administrators, and fans with respect.

● I will always be positive.

● I will always allow the coach to be the only coach, by refraining from coaching from the side lines. I will not enter into arguments with the other team's parents, players, or coaches.

● I will not enter the field of play for any reason during the game.

● I will not criticize game officials.

● I will not possess, consume, or distribute alcohol, illegal drugs, tobacco products and unauthorized prescription drugs before, during, or after the game or at any other time at the fields and/or game complex.

● I will communicate with my child's coach and/or team manager about any physical disability or ailment that may affect the safety of my child or the safety of others.  I will make every effort to have my child attend practices and games and will communicate with my child's coach and/or team manager if my child will be late or absent.  Good communication between parents and coaches leads to a more positive experience for all involved.

● I will learn the rules of the game and the policies of the league. Knowing the rules of the game will help with development and will help to minimize disagreements.

● I will sit on the opposite side of the players’ bench during practices and games. (No exceptions)

● I (and my guests) will be a positive role model for my child and encourage sportsmanship by showing respect and courtesy, and by demonstrating positive support for all players (on both teams), coaches, officials, and spectators at every game, practice, or other sporting event.  I (and my guests) will not engage in any kind of unsportsmanlike conduct with any official, coach, player, or parent such as booing and taunting or using profane language or gestures. I will not encourage any behaviors or practices that would endanger the health and well-being of the athletes.

● I will encourage my child to play by the rules and to resolve conflicts without resorting to hostility or violence.

● I will encourage my child to treat other players, coaches, officials and spectators with respect regardless of race, creed, color, sex, or ability.

● I will encourage my child that doing one's best is more important than winning so that my child will never feel defeated by the outcome of a game or his/her performance.

● I will not ridicule or yell at my child or other participant for making a mistake or losing a competition.

● I acknowledge that the coach of my child's team is the representative of the team and I will therefore respect the coach's authority.

● I will remember that as a fan, I represent the West Florida Soccer Club and the community. I understand poor behavior during practices, games, or tournaments may result in my expulsion from the WFSC. If this happens repeatedly, it will result in expulsion from WFSC for my family.

● I agree to do my best to have as much fun watching the game as the players should have playing the game.

WFSC CODE OF ETHICS AND PLAYER AGREEMENT:

● I will engage in good sportsmanship and encourage good sportsmanship from fellow players, coaches, officials and parents at all times.

● I will always remember that soccer is an opportunity to learn and have fun.

● I deserve to play in an environment that is free of drugs, tobacco, unauthorized prescription drugs, and alcohol. I will not possess, consume, or distribute these substances before, during, or after any club-related event and will hold others to this same expectation.

● I will do the best I can each day, remembering that all players have talents and weaknesses the same as I do.

● I will treat my coaches, other players and coaches, game officials, other administrators, and fans with respect at all times, regardless of race, sex, creed, or abilities and I will expect to be treated accordingly.

● I will concentrate on playing soccer, always giving my best effort.

● I will play by the rules at all times.

● I will control my temper at all times and resist the temptation to retaliate. My conduct during competition shall be in accordance with FIFA'S Laws of The Game and in adherence to WFSC rules.

● I will be a positive representative for the WFSC at all times.

General Club Rules:

● TRUST your coach – this is why you pay the club, allow them to do their job. They are licensed and trained professionals.

● Playing time is NOT guaranteed, however we make every effort to make sure all players see meaningful minutes, but again that is not guaranteed.

● Coaches will only discuss YOUR child and their developmental possibilities/needs. They are not permitted to discuss any other players, playing time, formations, or game outcomes. Coaching decisions are final and not negotiable.

● Players are to be at the field and left alone by parents 45 minutes before game time and 10 minutes after the game has ended.

● If problems arise, or there is a need to meet with your coach, talk to your manager to schedule a meeting.

● Each competitive team will be responsible for volunteering at the WFSC facility one month each season. This responsibility includes disposing of trash and cleaning the bathrooms. If this is not done, the team will be fined and the parents will be responsible to pay.

● Absolutely no contact with coaches and players during practices. Please notify the coach and/or team manager if you need to pick up your child early.

● All account payments must be up to date for your child to play in games. If there is an issue, talk to your team manager (who can discuss the issue with the Executive Director). If not paid, your child can be withheld from tournaments, friendlies, and other club events.

● Practice attendance is required for growth as a player. Players improve through practice and coaches determine playing time, in part, based on attendance at practices. Please make every effort to have your child at all training sessions on time.

Impermissible Behavior:

● Giving coaching instructions to any player during the game.

● Talking to or yelling across the field at your coach or child during a game or practice.

● Asking the coach about playing time, game outcomes, formations, positions, etc.

● Negative language about anyone else’s child for any reason whatsoever.

● Unruly behavior toward any referees, coaches, players, or parents.

***Please be reminded that violation of any of these rules or behavior that otherwise damages the reputation of WFSC will likely cause your inability to attend your child’s game or in your dismissal from the WFSC.

INFORMED CONSENT: I, the parent/guardian of the registrant, agree that we will abide by the rules of WFSC, and all its affiliated organizations. My/our child wishes to participate in soccer during the season of this registration. I/we realize risks are involved in my/our child's participation. I/we understand that the risk to my/our child includes full range of injuries from minor to severe, and the result could be death, paralysis, or other serious, permanent disability. I/we accept this risk as a condition of my/our child's participation.
