Covid-19 Safe Play

EGSA is happy to offer Soccer Saturdays to our house players. Using phase 3 guidelines from the Reopening RI plan, SoccerRI, and USYS we have ways to play while player and volunteer safety remain our priority.

RI allows for youth sports to have outdoor stable pods of 50 including volunteers and players. EGSA will create divisions, teams, and clinics in compliance with guidelines. Volunteer parent coaches will be instructed on safe-play.

Clinics and team practices/scrimmages will make up the Fall 2020 season. We are working with Challenger to ensure we have fun and excellent training for all our players!

Read our most recent guidelines and instructions for starting the season Saturday 9/12!

General Information

EGSA forms our House League teams by school-grade in order to create a fun, developmental program for our young soccer stars.  When players advance into older recreational divisions and travel soccer, team formation is done by birth year, per US Youth Soccer rules. For now, let the kids play with their friends!

What Your Player Needs

There will be no sharing of equipment due to Covid-19. Players should bring only necessary items to practices and clinics and be ready to play as soon as they arrive. Cones will be placed and distanced for players to leave their water bottles and for them to return to for breaks.

Every player must wear shin guards and soccer socks for every practice and/or game.
Little Kickers can wear sneakers or cleats. Older age groups must wear soccer cleats (not baseball/football cleats).
Player families are responsible for the purchase of black shorts, shin guards, soccer socks, shoes/cleats, and a soccer ball.
Please contact us if any uniform standard creates a hardship. EGSA provides each player with a jersey shirt.

Soccer ball sizes by division:

Little Kickers, U6, and U8 divisions - size 3 ball
U10 and up - size 4 ball

The Role of Parent Coaches

Parent coaches are an essential part of EGSA's Recreational Program and should be committed to their team for the duration of the season. As a coach, you are a role model for your team's players and will help shape their love of the sport of soccer. This is recreational, so the name of the game is FUN! Coaching is a very rewarding volunteer experience and it does not take much of your time. Listed below are the specifics for each age group.

EGSA House Coach Handbook

U8 & U10 divisions: Parent Coaches are expected to attend the Challenger Clinic with their teams and encouraged to hold a weekly team practice that focuses on technical skills, game play (throw-ins, goal kicks, etc), and teamwork. We created a Coaches Handbook with weekly themes and drills to guide your team practice and our coaching directors are happy to give you advice if you ask. (Time commitment: 2-3 hours/week, weekday and weekend)

U6 division: Parent Coaches are expected to attend the Challenger Clinic with their teams, which is held 30 minutes before the U6 games on the weekend. You are not required to hold any additional practices for your team, but can if you would like. (Time Commitment: 1-1.5 hours/week, weekend only)

Little Kicker division: Parent Coach Coordinators are expected to attend the Challenger Clinic with their groups each weekend. (Time commitment: < 1 hour/week, weekend only)

Per Soccer Rhode Island and US Youth Soccer, all EGSA Coaches need to successfully complete a background check.
If you volunteer to coach during the registration process, you will be contacted for more information.

The Role of Challenger Trainers and Clinics

Our professional trainers from Challenger Sports are mostly responsible for developing players' individual soccer skills. These sessions are run clinic-style and employ games and exercises that focus on foot skills, ball familiarity, and technique, all while having fun!
