The Major League Development Association and D.C. United renewed their partnership in 2018 to further provide coaches and players identification and development opportunities

Hampton Roads Soccer - Virginia Beach City FC is a member club of the MLDA and is an affiliate of D.C. United.
The following are examples of opportunities that benefit our club members, coaches and players:
- Annual visit from D.C. United staff at selected MLDA member academies
- Annual club night at Audi Field
- Member soccer academies to host talent centers
- Coaching education and curriculum access
- Summer Academy Pro Experience program design and implementation
- Exhibition matches against D.C. United Academy teams as deemed appropriate
- Selected players offered to participate or join D.C. United Academy on a part time or full time basis
Below is a video of Julian Barrios and Samuel Jones. Both players were former local playersin Norfolk, VA. Sameul earned his first US National Team U17 cap in 2020 and is now a player for Philadelphia Union. Julian Barrios was called up to play with D.C. United Academy and now is a full time academy player for the Houston Dynamo. Jones has since committed to play collegiate soccer at Wake Forest; Barrios has comitted to play at Georgetown.
Virginia Beach City FC has the ability to provide exposure and development opportunities for boys and also girls at the higher collegiate and professional levels. At the conclusion of the 2019 NPSL season, former VB City FC first team players Shane Weidt and Robbie Dambrot were elevated to D.C. United's USL Championship affiliate Loudoun United. Both players have since moved on to fellow Chamionship side Pittsburgh Riverhounds.
