7/8 Grade Division Rules

7/8 Grade Division Rules

1. All games consist of two 18-minute (running time) halves. The clock will be stopped during the final 2 minutes of the game for foul shots and for all dead balls. Full court defense is only allowed in the second half of the game.

2. Games will start at the scheduled time. If a team is not present and ready to begin within 15 minutes of the scheduled start time the game is forfeited.

3. Uniforms should always be worn and tucked in.

4. No jewelry of any kind can be worn by a player during the game and all players must wear shorts (no jeans, sweatpants) during the game.

5. If the score is tied at the end of regulation play, there will be a 3-minute overtime. Succeeding 3-minute over times will take place until a winner is determined.

6. Playing Time- Each team must play their players for a minimum of 9 minutes per game.

7. For teams that have more than 10 players, the remaining players must play a minimum of 5:00 minutes every game. The remaining players must be the least skilled players of the team. Coaches must put the spirit of sportsmanship and fair play at all times. If it is determined by the league that coaches are knowingly breaking the rules to gain an unfair advantage, the board will meet and decide the appropriate disciplinary action.

8. All players will be allowed 5 personal fouls. A team will be allowed 10 team fouls per half before the two free throw bonus situation. 

9. All teams are allowed four time-outs the entire game to be used at their discretion. Time-outs can be called by any coach or a player in control of the ball. If the game goes into overtime, each team is awarded one additional time out per over time period.

10. Any player who gets into a fight will automatically be suspended for 2 games. If a player gets into a second fight that player is automatically suspended for the remainder of the season. If a member of a player’s family is ejected from the stands that player must automatically leave the game and can’t return for that game. If a member of a player’s family is ejected for a second time, that player is automatically suspended for the remainder of the season.

11. If a coach is ejected from a game for two technical fouls, he MUST LEAVE THE BUILDING, and is suspended for the next two games.

12. Code of Conduct: Inappropriate conduct will NOT be tolerated within the confines of the gym before, during or after the game. If this happens, the spectator must leave the building. If the spectator is a parent of the player then he or she must leave with the player. If this happens a second time the spectator and player is suspended for the remainder of the season.

13. Snow/ Bad Weather Policy: If the schools are closed due to poor weather conditions, please check the web site and your emails for notifications of such an event. The same applies to practices. If your team has a practice at one of the elementary schools and they are closed due to bad weather, holiday, then your scheduled practice is also canceled. It is up to the coaches to reschedule.

14. The board reserves the right to amend the above rules. A notification will be sent to the coaches for any changes made.

5/6 Grade Division Rules

1. All games consist of two 16-minute (running time) halves. The clock will be stopped during the final 2 minutes of each half of the game for foul shots and for all dead balls.

2. Games will start at the scheduled time. If a team is not present and ready to begin within 15 minutes of the scheduled start time the game is forfeited.

3. Uniforms should always be worn and tucked in.

4. No jewelry of any kind can be worn by a player during the game and all players must wear shorts (no jeans, sweatpants) during the game.

5. If the score is tied at the end of regulation play, there will be a 2-minute overtime. If the score remains tied, there will be a shoot- out from the foul line. NFHS Rules will be in effect during the Shoot out.

6. Shoot outs- Each team designates 5 players to take 1 foul shot each. As each team is alternating shots the team that makes the most after the 5 shots is declared the winner of the game. If it is still tied, each team sends out 3 different players and the procedure continues. After 5 shooters if it is still even then the game is a tie.

7. Players develop skill levels differently during the season. With this in mind, the board reserves the right to observe and advise the coach of a team if a player should not be part of the lesser skilled players than their first 5 team players.

8. Playing Time - Each team sends out their 5 best players in the first 8 minutes of the first half.  The buzzer will ring on the next dead ball on or around the 8 minute mark of the first half to bring in the next 5 players. This is not a time out and all players must be substituted immediately and ready to play. If a team is not ready within 1 minutes, this will result in a technical foul assessed against that team. 

9. For teams that have more than 10 players, the remaining players must play a minimum of 5:00 minutes every game. The remaining players must be the least skilled players of the team. No player can play all 36 minutes. Coaches must put the spirit of sportsmanship and fair play at all times. If it is determined by the league that coaches are knowingly breaking the rules to gain an unfair advantage, the board will meet and decide the appropriate disciplinary action.

10. If a team goes up by 10 points, all starters must exit the game and the team ahead in score is limited to half court press in the last 4 minutes of the game. 

11. Full court defense can be utilized only in the final 4 minutes of the game.

3/4 Grade Division Rules

3/4 Grade Division Rules

1.     All games consist of two 14 - minute (running time) halves. The clock will be stopped during the final 2 minutes of each half of the game for foul shots and for all dead balls.

1a. 3 Each team is allowed 3 timeouts per game.

2.     Games will start at the scheduled time.  If a team is not present and ready to begin within 15 minutes of the scheduled start time the game is forfeited.

3.     Uniforms should always be worn and tucked in. 

4.     No jewelry of any kind can be worn by a player during the game and all players must wear shorts (no jeans, sweatpants) during the game. Coaches must also remind the players and parents to be mindful of sharp nails for everyone's safety

5.     If the score is tied at the end of regulation play, there will be a 2-minute overtime.  If the score remains tied, there will be a shoot- out from the foul line. 

6.     Shoot outs- Each team designates 3 players to take 1 foul shot each. As each team is alternating shots the team that makes the most after the 3 shots is declared the winner of the game. If it is still tied, each team sends out 2 different players and the procedure continues.  After 5 shooters if it is still even then the game is a tie.    

7.     3 point attempts are allowed during the final 2 minutes of the game for the 3rd and 4th grade divisions.

7a. Fast breaks and Half court Defense are allowed at the last two minutes of each half. 

8.     Players develop skill levels differently during the season. With this in mind, the board reserves the right to observe and advise the coach of a team if a player should not be part of the lesser skilled players than their first 5 team players.

9.     Playing Time- Each team sends out their 5 best players in the first 7 minutes of the first half. A buzzer will be sounded on the next dead ball on or around the 7 minute mark of the first half to bring in the next 5 players. This is not a timeout and the substituted players must leave the court so play will continue immediately. 

       9A. Each team will send their starters in the first 4 minutes of the second half, and then their next 5 players for the next 4 minutes. The teams have the freedom to play and substitute players during the last 6 minutes of the game. 

10. Coaches must put the spirit of sportsmanship and fair play at all times.  If it is determined by the league that coaches are knowingly breaking the rules to gain an unfair advantage, the board will meet and decide the appropriate disciplinary action.
