Volunteering FAQ

1. If I join the Board of Directors, what would my responsibilities be?
Individual members of the board have different role specific responsibilities. For example:

  • The four elected officers have general responsibilities to provide leadership and oversight of all aspects of BSC - President, VP, Secretary, Treasurer
  • Some roles focus on soccer operations - division coordinators, training coordinator, referee liasion
  • Some members have responsibilities related to specific areas of expertise - registrar, building/maintenance, fundraising, webmaster, etc.

2. How much time will I spend each month as a volunteer?
Volunteering with BSC is a commitment, but a rewarding commitment! There is flexibility to make it work for you and your schedule.

Board members should endeavor to attend the one monthly board meeting. Not so bad, right? Depending on your position, you may also participate in ad-hoc meetings which occasionally arise, but we try to keep those to a minimum as we know time is a precious commodity.

Lending an extra hand every now and then with other tasks such as field preparations, fundraising efforts, and community events, is always appreciated and helps to ensure successful programs and events.

3. Do I have to be a soccer expert?
A soccer background or a general love of the sport is great and will certainly help drive your passion for the role. Certain roles require more knowledge than others. However most volunteer opportunities simply require a passion to support and improve the programs offered by BSC!

4. Do I need to have children currently participating in BSC?
No. Many of our volunteers remain involved with the Club long after their children have stopped participating.

5. What if I'm not quite ready to volunteer on the board? Are there other ways I can help?
Of course - there are lots of ways to support the Club. If you have an interest in a role listed above, or an idea of how you can contribute, contact the President, Robert Passamano.
