Player Expectations

We are proud of our Quick Styx Lacrosse players because you live up to the very basic but very important expectations that we ask of you. We expect that you will:

  • Be present. Lacrosse is a team sport, and we need our players to show up at practices and games, ready to learn, play, and support their teammates. We ask that you are present for at least 75% of all practices during the season and as many games as possible. Your teammates are counting on you.
  • Be respectful of others. Be respectful of your coaches, because they are giving you the benefit of their time and experience in order to make you a better player and person. Be respectful of your teammates; they are trying their best and they deserve the same from you. Be respectful of the other team: without them, you wouldn't have any chance to compete and challenge yourself. And be respectful of the referees; they are doing their best to keep the game safe and fair for all players.
  • Engage in good sportsmanship. Play by the rules. Play a good, clean game. Don't take advantage of any loopholes or calls the referees may not be making.

In short, be known for the good that you do, not the bad.

Parent Expectations
Quick Styx Lacrosse is a volunteer-parent-run organization. As such, we understand the excitement - the highs and lows - of standing on the sideline and watching your daughter out there doing great things. Or not so great things. Or picking flowers... we have seen it all. And we, collectively, have made about every mistake a parent can make on the sideline. And we (ok, I) have been "that parent." You know the one. We all know the one.

Here's the thing: you don't want to be "that parent." Because your daughter knows "that parent," and she is desperately hoping it isn't you (trust me - I speak from personal experience). And we don't want you to be "that parent" either, because we all get painted with the same brush. It tarnishes the reputation of Quick Styx Lacrosse families. And it means that I have to take phone calls from WSLA, which in turn means that I have to call you. And no one wants that.

So here's what we are going to ask of you: please treat everyone with respect and decency. Everyone means our team, our coaches, the other team, the other team's coaches, the refs, and even the other team's parents. Pacific Northwest lacrosse is a small community, and we are all going to see each other over and over again. Let's have Quick Styx parents be known for gracious and supportive people we are.
