Become A Referee

WAYSA is always looking for referees for both our In-House and Traveling teams. A referee is responsible for creating a safe match by enforcing the Laws of the Game. We offer flexible schedules that allow the opportunity to officiate as much or as little as you’d like. Much like the players, there are guidelines in place related to the apparel of the referee.

Ages 10-12

WAYSA is excited to train a future referee by having them officiate our U8 and U10 In-House matches. We do not require any certifications at this level. Despite that, the referee is still in charge of the match and must be able to work with adult coaches, parents and players to ensure they understand how to safely participate in the match. WAYSA will provide a ‘Referee’ shirt.

13 & Older

PA West allows an individual to become licensed once they reach the age of 13. A referee must be at least two years older than the age group of the match (i.e. 15 years old to referee a U13 match). At this level, the safety of play is still the key. In addition, the licensed referee is expected to help mentor a younger or unlicensed referee. All referee apparel and gear are expected to be provided by the referee. It is never too late to become to referee and is a great way to make some spending money. WAYSA will reimburse the referee for their certification and annual recertification provided they continue to support WAYSA.
