Event Info

Who: Floyd County Parks and Rec

What: Independence Day Celebration

When: Saturday July 6th, starting at 12 PM and running until fireworks end around 10 PM

Where: Floyd County High School

Why: It's America's 248th birthday!

Admission is FREE, so make sure to come hang out for a while!

Scheduled Activities

Come join us for an afternoon of fun followed by an evening of music and fireworks!!!

12:00 PM - Gates open

1:00 - 3:00 PM - Afternoon games
- Dunk Tank
- Water Balloon Toss
- Sponge Relay
- Limbo Competition
- Hula Hoop Contest

3:00 PM - Cornhole Tournament
- $5 registration per team
- Prize for winning team is 50% of registrations

3:30 PM - Luke Whitaker kicks us off with some live music

6:30 PM - Patriotic Costume Contest

7:00 PM - Jimothy takes the stage

9:30 PM - Fireworks Start

Countryman Jamaican Grill
- A local favorite food truck serving traditional Jamaican cuisine

Driftwood Cafe
- Serving hearty American cuisine

Jamma's Jax
- Main Course: Carnival food
- Drinks: Boba lemonade
- Desserts: Funnel cakes and more

We're currently in the process of finalizing paperwork with several vendors and local organizations! Check back later for an updated list!

All-Day Games


Dunk Tank
- The dunk tank will be running all afternoon!
- Make sure to vote for who you want to dunk! So far, here's the vote tally:
- Sheriff Craig - 18 votes
- Linda Millsaps - 5 votes
- Jacob Agee - 3 votes
- David Whitaker - 1 vote
And feel free to write in your own nominations!

Yard Games (with the exception of cornhole during the tournament)
- Yard games will be available all day for free! Just bring some friends and start playing!
- Exception: All cornhole boards are reserved starting at 3 PM for the tournament
- Only for teams registered to play in the cornhole tournament
- Estimated 1 hr
- Boards will open back up to everyone when the tournament is finished

Bouncy Castles
- We'll have 3 inflatables available ALL DAY!!!
- Medium bouncy castle for younger kids
- Large bouncy castle for older kids
- Extra-large inflatable slide for all ages!
- Pay once, bounce all day!
- $5 per kid or
- $15 for the whole family (3 or more people)
- Waivers - Everyone that bounces is required to sign a waiver before participating
- Minors will need a parent/guardian to sign for them

Dunk Tank Details

The dunk tank will open starting at 1 PM.

Each dunkee will start in the dunk tank at the top of the hour and will stay for as long as we have a line of dunkers!

We'll probably limit each dunkee to 30 minutes in the dunk tank for safety reasons.

Cost
- $1 per throw or
- $5 for 6 throws

Make sure to check out our poll on Facebook to vote for who you'd like to see in the dunk tank!
And if you think of someone that's not already on the list, feel free to write their name in!

Afternoon Games Details

All afternoon games are free to participate, and will be super fun for the whole family!

Afternoon games will run from 1-3 PM and will run until each game has a crowned champion!

No registration or sign up needed!

Cornhole Tournament Details

This is our first annual County-wide cornhole tournament!

It'll be a single elimination bracket, and tournament rules will be announced the day of.

Registration - $5 per team to compete

Prize - 50% of all registrations
- The more teams that compete, the more you can win!


Pre-Register your team at the link below:
- There are limited spots 
- Only preregistered and prepaid teams will be guaranteed a spot in the bracket
- Same-day registrations can be completed at the staff tent on a 'first come, first served' basis

If you win, we cannot hand you cash during the event. Instead, we'll collect contact information, and have the administrative office write a check during regular business hours. 

Luke Whitaker - Live Music

Luke Whittaker is a solo artist that's taking the NRV by storm!

Independence Day Ceremony

After Luke Whittaker finishes his set, we'll take a minute to celebrate America's 248th birthday!

Patriotic Costume Contest Details

Immediately following the ceremony, we'll invite anyone dressed in patriotic gear up to the stage to flaunt their swag!

Each contestant will get a chance to walk across the stage and do a little jig to show off for the crowd!

The crowd will decide which contestant wins. The MC will give the crowd a chance to cheer for their favorite costume, and the one that get's the loudest reaction will win a prize!

Jimothy - Live Music

Jimothy is a local legend! They play a variety of music, and have performed at numerous local events and venues around the NRV including:

- Festival In The Park in Roanoke
- Christiansburg Spring Kickoff
- Christiansburg's Rockin' Main Street in
- Christiansburg Farmer's Market
- Radford Redbud Festival
- Brick House in Radford
- Eastern Divide in Blacksburg
- Draper Merc
- The Mason Jar at Claytor Lake
- And More!

Fireworks

The event will end with an amazing fireworks show starting around 9:30 PM.

The best viewing area will be on the baseball field behind the high school, but you're more than welcome to view the fireworks from the parking lot too!

NOW ACCEPTING VENDORS

VENDORS: We'd love to have your business represented at our event! If you're interested in attending and setting up your own booth, please click the "Vendor Application Request" link below fill out your contact information, and we'll send you a vendor application.

We do not provide tents, tables, or other equipment for vendors, only the space. Since we'll be in the front parking lot of Floyd County High School, it will be hot, so we highly recommend you bring a tent for shade.

Vendors will be allowed in at 11 am to start setting up. Please make sure you are FINISHED setting up before 12 pm when the gates open to the public.
