Welcome to Harrison Youth Football! Although our high school serves the north side of the Tippecanoe School Corporation schools that will feed to Harrison High School, we do not limit participation to our schools only. We are open to anyone who wants to learn football the right way with players coming from all over Tippecanoe County and our surrounding area.
Former Harrison High School Head Coach, Terry Peebles, founded this league in 2014 with the founding principals of USA Football, safe tackling, competitive balance, and a positive experience that allows for continued involvement as students enter junior high school and high school. The goal is for kids to learn to love football and although not every player will play each position, we offer opportunities to kids to experience as many as possible. We do not have weight limits for any positions as we use grade divisions that allows for players to be separated into proper age categories and then teach them proper fundamentals and techniques to be successful.
Our program uses a tiered approach to building fundamental skills to continue into the next division and eventually see players entering their junior high program ready to be successful players. Our divisions are set as follows with other information provided about cost, equipment, practices, and a generalized schedule for our 2025 season:
Divisions:
· Beginner Flag Football (Grades K and 1): $125.00
· Advanced Flag Football (Grades 2 and 3): $125.00
· Grades 3 & 4 Tackle: $175.00
· Grades 5 & 6: Tackle: $175.00
Grades refer to the class grades that the player will be attending in the coming fall and school year. Both boys and girls are welcome to play in any of our divisions!
Flag Football (boys and girls are welcome to join our flag program):
· Practices will be held only on Sundays for one half-hour before each game. This is a skill development time for things such as throwing, catching, pulling flags, and learning good fundamentals players can take with them to our other programs.
· Games will be played on Sundays, with the total weekly commitment being one hour. The expectation is that flag football teams DO NOT practice during the week.
Tackle Football (boys and girls are welcome to join our tackle program):
· Practices will begin August 4th, 2025 with the first three weeks of practice being Monday through Thursday. The first two weeks are observation opportunities for coaches to rank players for a snake draft that ensures teams are evenly created to promote the beneficial experience for every player, coach, and family.
· Practices will move to Mondays and Wednesdays starting August 25th through the end of the season on October 14th.
· Games will be played on Sundays on the following dates: August 24th, September 7th, September 14th, September 21st, September 28th, October 5th, October 12th, and October 14th.
Harrison Youth Football has gone to great lengths to ensure the equipment that we provide our athletes is always up to the highest standards to ensure their safety and confidence in playing. We provide the following gear for our flag and tackle programs:
Flag:
Harrison Youth Football will supply flags and shirts for the players. Parents will supply shorts and tennis/football shoes. No baseball/softball spikes allowed.
Tackle:
Harrison will supply helmets, shoulder pads, padded pants and a mouthpiece. Parents will need to supply football cleats (no baseball/softball/soccer cleats) along with under clothing.
VISORS OR ANY OTHER EQUIPMENT THAT MODIFIES ANY HYFB EQUIPMENT IS ALLOWED UNLESS A MEDICAL NEED IS DOCUMENTED. Backplates or other equipment that can be added to shoulder pads to provide additional padding may be added but must be done so with the approval of the HYFB President or Vice President.
To ensure players gain a quality experience, we have reduced the size of the field for each division. This allows a more controlled environment that promotes increased player involvement, enhanced skill development, improved safety, age-appropriate play, and increasing the reliance on fundamental and skill development. Our field dimensions are as follows:
Fields
Modified fields will be used to suit the age levels. This allows players to experience football in a more controlled environment that encourages proper play and skill rather than .
Flag: 40 yard length by approximately 20 yards wide
3rd & 4th Grade Tackle: 40 yard length by approximately 25 yards wide
5th & 6th Grade Tackle: 40 yard length by approximately 35.5 yards wide
We also ensure all of our coaches are
certified through USA Football, whether they are a coach for our flag football or tackle divisions. Our program chooses to partner with USA Football because their resources and training prioritize the safety and proper development of our young athletes. By following USA Football's guidelines and utilizing their certified coaches, we ensure our players learn the fundamentals the right way in a supportive environment that puts their well-being first. Coaches must also pass a certified background check through the
Tippecanoe School Corporation due to the usage of their facilities.
