When does the season start.
Spring: Practices start in late January/Early Feb. and games begin in March. Regular season games run into early May.
Fall: Practices start in August and games start in September and continue up until Thanksgiving.
When will practices be?
Practice day(s)and times are up to the discretion of your child’s manager. Managers get to pick the days that their team practices, along with the times and field location. Practice locations can be at either Murphy Ranch, various EWCSD schools, or at various Parks withing the City of Whittier.
What days/times are games?
Games are typically two days per week; one weekday and one day on either Saturday or Sunday.
Where are games?
Home games take place at either our Murphy Ranch Field complex or at Orchard Dale Elementary School, in Whittier. Away games can take place at any District 56 field that we interleague play with.
My child has never played baseball? Can he/she still play in your league?
Yes, all children are welcome, regardless of skill level.
Is your league Co-ed? Do you offer softball too?
Yes, we are co-ed. We have many girls that play baseball in every division from Tee Ball thru Juniors. But unfortunately we do not offer Girl's Softball.
What is provided with registration fees?

- Participation awards are given to non-competitive divisions.(Spring season only) 1st place teams in competitive divisions also receive awards.
What gear do I need to buy my player?
All players need to have their own helmet, USA Stamped baseball bat (BBCOR for Juniors (Jrs) Division is approved), glove, baseball pants, baseball socks, baseball belt, a bag for their gear, molded baseball cleats (metal cleats for Jrs is approved), and a protective cup (for boys).
What are Player Evaluations?
Player evaluations (also known as try-outs) are a time for all players, Little League age 7 and above, to be evaluated by managers. All players will be selected by a team or placed on a team regardless of their ability.
*Player Evaluations are for the Spring season only. We DO NOT do player evaluations for our Fall season.
Can I request for my child play with his best friend?
Though we cannot guarantee placement, for Tee Ball and Minor B, we try to accommodate these requests to give our players the best possible experience and help parents juggle their schedules. Unfortunately, we cannot accept special requests (other than for siblings) for divisions above Minor B.
What is the difference between a Team Manager and a Coach (Assistant Coach)?
Team Manager: Runs the team, plans practices, creates lineups, communicates with parents, keeps track of paperwork, etc.
Assistant Coach: Helps the Team Manager in running practices, coaching games, and running the team.
How do I become a Team Manager or a Coach?

We are from Hacienda Heights Little League. Can I still register my child to play at Murphy Ranch?
In 2021 we officially expanded our MR boundaries to include HHLL’s old boundaries. Therefore, all Hacienda Heights players are welcome at Murphy Ranch Little League.
How do I check to see if I qualify to play at Murphy Ranch Little League?
Players must live or go to school within our boundaries. To confirm your home or school address falls within our boundaries please use the following link to verify: https://www.littleleague.org/play-little-league/league-finder/
I do not live within MRLL Boundaries. Can I still play at MRLL?
You do have options. Please email our League President, Christine Garibay, at [email protected] for assistance on getting a release waiver from your “home” league.
What does “Little League Age” mean?
Little League does not go by your child’s actual age, but rather they use “Little League Age” which is determined by your child’s birth month and year. You can determine your child's Little League age by using the Little League age Finder tool online. When will I hear from my child’s Team Manager?
SPRING SEASON: You will usually hear from your Team Manager about one week prior to the first practices. In the Spring, we draft teams at the end of January, so you can expect to hear from a manager within the first week of February.
FALL SEASON: You will hear from your Player's Manager is August.
What are the volunteer requirements? Why are there so many?
All these requirements come from Little League or the state of California and are intended to protect our young players.
For ALL volunteers:
- Annual background check (required by Little League for all volunteers). This is done through JDP and initiated by our League’s Safety Officer. To request to be background checked in advance, please email [email protected], You will receive an email from our Safety Officer with further instructions.
- *Beginning 2024** One-time LiveScan (required by the state of California, paid for by MRLL). We are currently exploring options to get a mobile unit to our fields prior to the season to make it easier on our volunteers.
For Managers and Coaches only:
- One-time certifications in Sudden Cardiac Arrest, Child Abuse Awareness, and Concussion Protocol (required by Little League). These certificates should be downloaded and emailed to [email protected].
