The “Bridge” Phase: Transition & Logic


⭐ Overview

Modified Kid Pitch introduces full player‑pitch softball and deeper game strategy. Players begin to understand the “why” behind each play.


🎯 Season Goals

  • Strengthen softball IQ and situational awareness
  • Build confidence in pitching, catching, and baserunning
  • Introduce competitive play and scorekeeping
  • Prepare athletes for tournament‑style softball

🧠 Player Development Focus

  • Pitching & Catching: Strike‑zone consistency, blocking, framing
  • Aggressive Baserunning: Stealing, passing the bag, taking extra bases
  • Situational Defense: Pre‑pitch planning and communication
  • Bunting: Sacrifice bunts to move runners

🗓️ Season Structure

  • 1 weeknight practice
  • Saturday games + postseason tournament
  • Full player‑pitch
  • Scorekeeping begins

🧢 Uniform & Equipment

  • Provided: Team shirt & socks
  • Required: Black pants, glove, helmet
  • Strongly Encouraged: Fielding mask for all infielders

📘 Little League Rule Snapshot (Minor Player Pitch)

  • 60‑ft bases, 35‑ft pitching distance
  • Full kid‑pitch
  • Stealing allowed (no leading)
  • Dropped‑third‑strike may apply depending on league
  • 6‑inning games with run limits

👨‍👩‍👧 What Parents Should Expect

  • Faster pace and more competitive games
  • Players begin specializing in positions
  • Umpires may be volunteers or uniformed officials
  • More independence and responsibility
