The “Building Blocks” Phase: Fundamental Mechanics


⭐ Overview

Coach pitch bridges the gap between play and structured softball. Players begin learning positions, mechanics, and game flow.


🎯 Season Goals

  • Build repeatable throwing, catching, and hitting mechanics
  • Introduce positional play and defensive responsibilities
  • Prepare players for full player‑pitch softball
  • Encourage confidence and independence on the field

🧠 Player Development Focus

  • Power‑K Mechanics: Early pitching form + proper overhand throwing
  • Positional Awareness: Infield vs. outfield roles
  • Force Outs: Learning to “find the bag”
  • Plate Discipline: Consistent contact on coach‑pitch / early kid‑pitch

🗓️ Season Structure

  • 1 weeknight practice
  • 1 Saturday game
  • Coach‑pitch with optional player‑pitch introduction
  • No stealing

🧢 Uniform & Equipment

  • Provided: Team shirt & socks
  • Required: Black pants, glove, helmet
  • Recommended: Cleats

📘 Little League Rule Snapshot (Minor League Coach Pitch)

  • 60‑ft bases, 35‑ft pitching distance
  • Coach‑pitch allowed; player‑pitch optional
  • No stealing or leading
  • 5‑run inning limits common
  • Umpires may be coaches or volunteers
