MHSAA rules will be used, with the following exceptions:
1. Players are expected to wear the game jersey provided (or same color) for each game. Players are prohibited from wearing jewelry such as rings, earrings, bracelets, necklaces, barrettes, etc.
2. Participants will play as equally as possible in all contests.
3. The game will consist of two 16-minute halves. Coaches will make "wholesale" substitutions every 4 minutes. In the case that a team has more than 10 players, games will be two 20-minute halves with substitutions still made every 4 minutes.
4. Referees are to blow the whistle the closest to 4 minutes without interrupting a live play (stop during a dead ball, walk-up, defensive rebound, etc.).
5. Running time will be used for all periods., The only other time the clock stops is for time outs or injuries.
6. Each team is entitled to 1 time out per half, the duration of which will be 1 minute.
7. Full court pressing is prohibited.
8. Teams must play "man-to-man" defense and are not allowed to double team unless a player is driving to the basket. Help rotations and leaving players to guard the ball and protect the basket are allowed and encouraged.
9. Individual fouls will not be recorded. Therefore, players cannot foul out. However, unnecessary roughness, flagrant fouls or unsportsmanlike conduct will not be tolerated. Offenders will be warned and/or removed from the game immediately.
10. Free throws (Note: Players shoot from the 12-foot line):
(a) 2 free throws on all shooting fouls.
(b) Poor sportsmanship, flagrant or intentional fouls will result in a technical foul. 2 free throws will be awarded and the shooting team will also be given the ball out of bounds at mid-court following the free throws.
11. There will be no 3-second rule or backcourt violation (over-and-back).
12. Opposing teams and coaches will shake hands after each game. Coaches from each team are permitted to be on the floor during games. The intent is for instructional purposes only.
13. Players are not allowed to steal the basketball directly from an opponent. However, players may steal the ball on any pass and any time the ref decides that the ball handler lost control of the dribble.
14. Games will be played on an 8.5’ rim with a 27.5” diameter basketball.
Notes:
· Please have players take turns bringing the ball up the floor.
· Each player on the floor will have a colored wristband. The intent is for players to guard that person. However, if player blue is wide open, player green is allowed to pick him/her up. The colors are meant to help the kids get matched-up, but we want to teach them that stopping the ball is more important than finding a man.
