Four Falcons Earn All-Region Honors from NFHCA

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – In late November, the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) announced their All-Region honors for the 2022 season. Among the 190 student-athletes honors across the country there were four Messiah field hockey players honored for their play this year. Ashlyn Smith earned First Team All-Region honors while Catie Brubaker, Mallory Kline, and Lauren Seubert claimed Second Team honors.

Just a few weeks after being named the MAC Commonwealth Offensive Player of the Year, Ashlyn Smith earned her second-straight First Team All-Region nod from NFHCA. For Brubaker, Kline, and Seubert the All-Region honors are the first of their careers.

Smith was Messiah's top offensive threat, scoring 15 goals and adding nine assists on the season. She registered 39 total points, tied for the conference and scored in bunches. Smith scored two goals on five different occasions, including back-to-back games with two goals against Ursinus (Sept. 28) and Widener (Oct. 1). She also added a two-goal game in the MAC Commonwealth Semifinal against Albright.

Mallory Kline put together a stellar and consistent first campaign in Grantham. Kline scored 11 goals and added two assists this season, but scored in 10 different games. After coming off the bench in her first two games, Kline scored in her first career start against Franklin & Marshall on Sept. 7 and never looked back. She earned Second Team All-Region honors after leading the team with five game-winning goals.

The two other All-Region honorees came from the Falcons' defense. With Catie Brubaker in goal and Lauren Seubert from the backline both earning Second Team All-Region honors. Brubaker played 1,085 minutes in goal with a 1.11 goals against average. She made 67 saves for a 0.770 save percentage with a 16-3 record this year. She recorded six shutouts on the season, including the MAC Commonwealth Championship Game against York.

Lauren Seubert anchored the Falcons' defense this season, playing 20 games and starting 19 on the season. The defense allowed just 20 goals on the year for a 1.00 team goals against average. Seubert also was Messiah's main penalty stroke taker. In eight attempts, Seubert scored seven goals on penalty strokes to finish tied for third on the team in goals scored. She also added two assists for 16 points.

As a team, Messiah advanced to the Elite Eight, claimed their 15th-straight MAC Commonwealth Championship, and finished the year with a 17-3 overall record.
