Profs End Falcons NCAA Run in Elite Eight

GLASSBORO, N.J. - The Falcons NCAA run ended in the Elite Eight this afternoon after falling to No. 3 seeded Rowan University 3-1. Carrie Bair tacked on a goal in the third quarter but Rowan kept the Falcons in check for the entire game with their strong defensive efforts.

The loss ends the season for the Falcons on an impressive 17-3 year.

Action
It was Rowan who jumped out of the gates early dominating time of possession and pace of the game, controlling every aspect of the first half. The Profs were able to convert two penalty corners into goals courtesy of Kristiina Castagnola and Bridget Guinan. The Falcons were slated to head to the half only down one, but Guinan's goal off the penalty corner with a minute to go doubled the lead for the Profs.

Rowan held the shot advantage 8-1 and had four corners to Messiah's none. The Falcons lone shot came off the stick of Bair, who narrowly missed the right side of the goal as she raced down the field and shot across the field.

The Profs continued to attack coming out of the break, converting another goal off a penalty corner opening up a 3-0 lead. A little over 40 seconds later, the Falcons got back into the game with a goal by way of Carrie Bair via a backhand chip from five yards out to make the game 3-1. It would stay that way as the fourth quarter got underway. The Falcons tried to rally and had a penalty corner opportunity early in the quarter but did not find the answer. Desperately trying to get shots at the cage, they had a penalty corner opportunity with 16 seconds in the game but Teagan Murrie's shot was blocked and Messiah saw their season come to an end, losing 3-1 to Rowan.

Stats
Rowan held the edge not only on the field, but in the stats as well, out shooting Messiah 12-4 in the contest with Rowan putting eight of those shots on goal while the Falcons put half of their shots on goal (2). Rowan also held the corner advantage at 8-3. Carrie Bair's goal in the third quarter was her sixth goal of the year.

Next
The loss ends the Falcons season with a record of 17-3 on the year. Ashlyn Smith led the Falcons in goals with 15.
