Shank Earns NFHCA Co-Regional Player of the Year

Geneva, N.Y. – On Thursday, the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) announced their 2023 NFHCA Regional Players of the Year. Nicole Shank was named the Co-Region V Player of the Year, along with Johns Hopkins defender, Liz Falterer.

The 2023 MAC Commonwealth Co-Defensive Player of the Year, Nicole Shank had a dynamic 2023 season with her stout defense and added offensive prescience. Shank also earned a spot on the NFHCA First-Team All-Region and to the First Team All-MAC Commonwealth after leading the Falcons with 22 points on seven goals and eight assists, while leading an impressive Messiah defense. Shank helped the Messiah defense record nine shutouts on the season.

Shank becomes the third Falcon athlete to earn a Region Player of the Year. Shank is the first Falcon to earn Regional Player of the Year since Carissa Gehman in 2017.

Each regional award winner is now in the running for NFHCA Division III National Player of the Year honors which will be announced on December 15. The NFHCA will announce All-American teams on December 12.
