Field Hockey Earns Three Major Awards, Six Named to All-Conference Teams

ANNVILLE, Pa. – On Wednesday morning the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Commonwealth released their 2023 All-MAC Commonwealth Major Awards and All-Conference teams. The Falcons earned three major awards, with Nicole Shank earning Co-Defensive Player of the Year, Aubrey Clark being named Rookie of the Year, and Brooke Good honored with Coach of the Year. Along with the major awards the Falcons had six players named to the All-MAC Commonwealth teams.
 
The First-Team selections were led by Co-Defensive Players of the Year Nicole Shank and Rookie of the Year Aubrey Clark. Jenna Lutz also earned a spot on the first team. Mallory Kline, Teagan Murrie, and Allie Mast each earned a spot on the second team, rounding out the six Falcons selected.
 
The 2021 First Team All-MAC Commonwealth honoree, Nicole Shank had a dynamic 2023 season with her stout defense and added offensive prescience. Shank earned the Co-Defensive Player of the Year and was named to the First Team All-MAC Commonwealth after totaling 19 points on six goals and seven assists, while leading an impressive Messiah defense. Shank helped the Messiah defense record nine shutouts on the season. Shank was named MAC Commonwealth Offensive Player of the Week, on Sept. 25 for her two-goal performance in the win over William Smith.
 
Aubrey Clark had an impressive first year as a Falcon. The 15th Conference Rookie of the Year in program history, Clark led the Falcons with 21 points on nine goals and three assists. Clark started her career strong as a Falcon with a point in the first five games of the season. Clark earned a MAC Commonwealth Offensive Player of the Week honor on Sept.11 for her impressive performances against Franklin and Marshall and Salisbury University earlier in the season.
 
Jenna Lutz earned a spot on the first team after an impressive season in the Falcons midfield. Lutz finished the season with 13 points on four goals and five assists. Lutz started all 18 games for the Falcons and was a crucial part of the Falcons penalty corners with her inserts.
 
The 2022 MAC Commonwealth Rookie of the Year and Second Team selection, Mallory Kline earned another second-team selection in 2023. Kline started 17 of the 18 games for the Falcons with four goals on the season. Kline earned a MAC Commonwealth Offensive Player of the Week honor on Sept. 4 for her game-winning goal in the season opener at Dickinson.
 
Teagan Murrie earned her first All-MAC Commonwealth honor with a great 2023 season for the Falcons. Murrie started every game for the Falcons and finished second in the team with 20 points on eight goals and four assists. Murrie was named MAC Commonwealth Offensive Player of the Week on Oct. 16 for her two goals in the wins over Stevenson and at Widener.
 
Allie Mast earned second team honors after earning a spot on the Honorable Mention team in 2022. Mast started all 18 games for the Falcons and recorded five defensive saves on the season. Mast was named MAC Commonwealth Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 2 for three defensive saves in the wins over Montclair St. and Rowan.
 
Brooke Good earned Coach of the Year honors for leading the Falcons to a perfect 7-0 record in MAC Commonwealth play. Along with Good, the coaching staff of Danae Hollenbach, Kourtney Joyce, Ashley Matarrese, and Shelby Landes led the Falcons to an 17-1 overall record on the season. It is the sixth time that Good has been named MAC Commonwealth Coach of the Year.
