SPORTS LEAGUE FAQ’S

1.      When will I be contacted about my child’s team?

Coaches will receive their rosters during a coaches meeting and they will contact the players/parents thereafter. Coaches will provide you with all the information that you need regarding practice times and locations as well as the season’s schedule. Your child’s game schedule will also be emailed to you through the email address you provided on your Blue Sombrero account.

2.      The season has not started yet and I am worried because I have not received any calls, what should I do?

Please do not panic if you see other teams are practicing and your child has not been called. Not all teams begin practice at the same time. Our staff and volunteer parents/coaches will contact you in a timely manner. You are more than welcome to give us a call so that we may better assist you. You can reach us at (714) 593-0753, ext. 1.

3.      What about practice times and locations?

Practices are determined by the parents on your team (including you!) and your team’s coach. We encourage our practices to be between 5pm-8pm during weekdays, and Saturday between 9am-2pm.

If there are certain days that do not work with your schedule, let your coach know during your first meeting so the team can find a time that works for everyone. Practices are often held at off-site schools or parks.

4.      What days and times are games played?

Basketball games are typically scheduled Monday-Friday evenings and some Saturdays. Games are played at 5:30pm, 6:30pm, or 7:30pm on the weekdays and can be played at any of our location (Fountain Valley, Huntington Beach and Pacific Life Branch. Game days vary based on the number of teams in the league. Typically, the younger divisions play earlier in the week and the oldest divisions play at the end of the week. Soccer games are played on the weekends, usually Friday evenings and Saturday mornings between 9am to 2pm.

BGCHV offers limited refunds for players withdrawing from the program. Parents must complete the Refund Request Form in order to be eligible for refund.

·         Withdrawals prior to evaluations will receive a full refund minus a $25 administrative fee. The Refund Request Form must be submitted prior to the date of evaluations.

·         Withdrawals after evaluations will receive a 50% refund.

·         Withdrawals after the start of the season due to special circumstances such as injury are eligible for a credit to be applied toward a future season.

No other refunds will be given after the start of the season.

8.      Can I request that my child play on a certain team or with certain players/coach?

Teams are organized based on individual player evaluation and team availability. While the Athletics Department may consider requests made by league participants, there is NO GUARANTEE that requests will be granted.

9.      What are player evaluations and why are they important?

Player evaluations are conducted to place your child on the most appropriate team for his/her experience level or ability. Players will be evaluated by our trained staff and placed on a team accordingly.  By not bringing your child to evaluations, it makes it difficult for teams to be divided evenly, and ultimately, that makes games less fun for your child.

10.  How do I become a coach?

It’s easy! You can fill out a coach’s application at any of our branches and turn them in to our athletic staff. All coaches are required to complete background check.
