What is JBO ?

JBO is a non-profit organization formed to provide an opportunity for youth players from grades 5th through 8th to participate in a competitive, organized, baseball experience.

The goal of JBO is to provide each player, regardless of skill level, the opportunity to compete against players of similar grade (division) and skill levels.

SUNSET will compete in two grade divisions:

  • Juniors = 5th-6th Grade.   Play on 50/70 Fields
  • Seniors = 7th-8th Grade.   Play on High School Fields

Evaluations will determine team formation.  (note: All players are expected to attend evaluations).

Within each Division evaluations will be held to determine team formation into the following JBO levels of play:

  • Federal - most skilled players
  • American - intermediate skilled players
  • NATIONAL - developing players

JBO league games are played according to the rules of the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) with some modifications to tailor the rules to the grade and skill level of the players.

  • JBO base lengths and pitching distances are reduced from the High School level to accommodate younger players, but increase progressively with the grade of the players.
  • The goal is to provide players the opportunity to play the complete game of baseball (leading off, stealing, etc.) but to progressively increase playing distances as the grade and skill of players increase.

JBO is made up of three separate geographic districts.
