Our Coaches


Dean Beckley

Dean returns to Sunset Youth Baseball this spring after serving as the assistant coach for last year’s Sr. Fed team. He will be stepping into the head coach role for the upcoming season. Dean serves as a non-parent volunteer, offering his time and experience to support the Sunset community and foster player development.

Dean’s baseball background includes playing high school baseball at Sunset (Class of ’89) as a catcher and pitching for Boston University in 1993. In 1991, he coached the Sunset freshmen team — several of those players went on to win the 1994 State Championship, and he still enjoys taking a small amount of credit for their success. Over the years, he also coached two of his sons through more than a decade of Little League and Sunset JBO.

As a coach, Dean emphasizes player development, confidence, and a positive baseball experience. His coaching philosophy focuses on helping every athlete improve, build good habits, and understand the game. He believes that creating a supportive and growth-oriented environment is more important than the scoreboard.

Justin Mayland

Justin has been a coach from T-Ball in CMLL through the Juniors program in SYB.  He joined the board of Cedar Mill Little League in the fall of 2020 and has been involved in making baseball possible for the community ever since.  Justin volunteers for various local community youth sports leagues and is involved in the youth program at St Matthews Lutheran Church in Beaverton.  He enjoys serving the community and building a better world for the next generation of leaders.
