Welcome to the NWAA

Niagara Wheatfield Amateur Athletics

Benjamin J Lloyd Lifetime Service Award

Benjamin J Lloyd was one of the founding members of NWAA, helping NWAA and the youth of Niagara Wheatfield from the mid 1970’s to 2010, and serving as an NWAA Board member for many years. His goal along with the entire group was to create a youth sports organization that he was proud to have his kids participate in, and an organization that taught kids the fundamentals of both sports and life. He saw his kids and his grandkids through all of our sports programs. He was a football coach, and  worked in the fitness room, to help run equipment for the athletes. He was frequently a concessions helper whenever they needed a hand, a former grounds crew member, and member of the NWAA fundraising committee. Benjamin may have also been the first videographer in youth sports in our area starting in the early 80s doing football games, then continuing as the videographer for NWHS wrestling, football, and even some volleyball and swim meets. He started volunteering at Niagara Wheatfield High School in the mid 1980’s throughout 2010’s, and helped with whatever was needed in the inaugural years of NWAA Wrestling, which was in the early 1980’s. In addition to his service for NWAA, Benjamin Lloyd received the NFL Cornerstone Award in 1989, this award is still given out annually at the year end Niagara Frontier League meeting. With his recent passing, we felt that it was right to name this award after him.

The Benjamin Lloyd Lifetime Service Award will be given out each year to a member of the NWAA community that has devoted their time and effort to bettering NWAA within all of our sports programs, along with bettering the Niagara sports community.

Previous Recipients:
2023- William "Bill" Ploetz, NWAA President

Coach of the Year Award

All of our coaches are volunteers, each year they sign up for similar reasons, to coach their children, or because they love the sport and want to help our athletes get better. In each case, our coaches go above and beyond to create a safe community that allows for our athletes to grow and accomplish their goals. While it is difficult to determine which coach deserves this recognition, we look at the work ethic, reliability, and leadership that each coach brings to the table. Additionally, we rely on the votes submitted from Parents and Supporters!

The Coach of the Year Award will be given out each year to a Coach within the NWAA community that has devoted their time and effort to bettering NWAA within all of our sports programs, along with bettering the Niagara sports community.
