We need volunteers for the 2024-25 season. If you are interested please complete the steps below.
Mason is delighted that you would consider serving the children in this community by volunteering to coach youth basketball. Our foremost concern is the safety of the children and we will take reasonable measure to ensure their safety.
We ask that you provide a new application this year so that we are assured of having the most up to date contact information. Also, we have made it a policy to require a background check every year, even for our returning coaches. We hope you will recognize the importance of ensuring our Mason residents that we value a healthy and safe play environment for their children. The few minutes we ask you to sacrifice for this process is well worth it if we can avoid incidents.
To simplify the process, here is what we ask each head coach and assistant coach to do:
- Go to the police department to get fingerprinted. Please be sure to bring a valid photo ID (drivers license, passport, or State ID card). The Mason Police Department, located at 6000 Mason Montgomery Road, offers free fingerprint processing. Please specify that you are being fingerprinted for the City of Mason Youth Basketball program.
- Anytime Monday-Friday between 8:00 am and 4:30 pm
Note-Regarding the background check, your fingerprints are scanned and sent electronically to the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identifications criminal database. The fingerprints are run through for COMPARISON ONLY, to see if you have ever been fingerprinted on an arrest or criminal offense charge. Your record check is performed and the fingerprints are never kept in the system. The background check is then only good from year to year. Thus the reason for having to do this every year.
- Provide your National Youth Sports Coaches Association (NYSCA) certification number and expiration date on your application.
- To obtain or renew your NYSCA certification you must participate in the three part online training clinic. This clinic is $20 and includes education tutorials followed by a 15 questions multiple choice test. After completion, you will receive a certification, NYSCA membership and liability insurance coverage. Sign up to take this course at www.nays.org/coaches.
- If you are a continuing member of NYSCA from last year, all you need to do is renew your membership. This can be done at www.nays.org
- Your certification needs to be valid through March 2025
- Complete the Concussion in Sports online training. This includes an educational tutorial followed by a short test. Sign up to take this free course below. The certification is valid for 3 years.
Once all items have been completed, send all documents together (volunteer application form, NAYS certification # and expiration date, as well as the Concussion Certification) in one email to Keith Albin at [email protected]. Please do not send separately.
Final Deadline: OCT 18th. It will take a few weeks for the background check and our other internal processes. Please anticipate a delay in providing your services if you are unable to meet this deadline.
