Mason Youth Basketball Organization

We need volunteers for the 2025-26 season.  If you are interested please complete the steps below.

Mason is delighted that you would consider serving the children in this community by volunteering to coach youth basketball. Our foremost concern is the safety of the children and we will take reasonable measure to ensure their safety.

We ask that you provide a new application this year so that we are assured of having the most up to date contact information. Also, we have made it a policy to require a background check every year, even for our returning coaches. We hope you will recognize the importance of ensuring our Mason residents that we value a healthy and safe play environment for their children. The few minutes we ask you to sacrifice for this process is well worth it if we can avoid incidents.

To simplify the process, here is what we require every head coach and assistant coach to do:

  • Complete the City of Mason Volunteer Application (required each season) | 25-26 Volunteer Coach Application

  • Complete the Concussion in Sports online training.  This includes an educational tutorial followed by a short test.  Sign up to take this free course below. The certification is valid for 3 years.
  • Get fingerprinted at City of Mason Policy Department for background check.
    • Please be sure to bring a valid photo ID (drivers license, passport, or State ID card).
    • The Mason Police Department, located at 6000 Mason Montgomery Road, offers free fingerprint processing.
    • Please specify that you are being fingerprinted for the City of Mason Youth Basketball program.
    •  Anytime Monday-Friday between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm
    •  Note-Regarding the background check, your fingerprints are scanned and sent electronically to the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identifications criminal database. The fingerprints are run through for COMPARISON ONLY, to see if you have ever been fingerprinted on an arrest or criminal offense charge. Your record check is performed and the fingerprints are never kept in the system. The background check is then only good from year to year. Thus the reason for having to do this every year.
  •  Obtain  National Youth Sports Coaches Association (NYSCA) certification  and provide that certification number and expiration date on your Volunteer Application.

Our organization is committed to providing the best experience possible to the youth participating in our programs. With this in mind, we have partnered with the National Alliance for Youth Sports (NAYS) and are offering its NAYS Coach Training & Membership program for all of our volunteer coaches. NAYS is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving youth sports by providing training, resources, and support for coaches, parents, and administrators to create positive, safe, and fun experiences for all young athletes. They have been around since 1981 and over 4 million volunteers have gone through one or more of their programs.

NAYS training includes valuable information on coaching youth sports as well as sport-specific information about the sport you are coaching. In addition, it meets a number of requirements of our volunteers concerning safety, basic first aid for serious issues like concussion awareness, heat illness, sudden cardiac arrest and even AED use.

As a member of the NAYS Coach program you will also receive $2,000,000 of excess liability insurance coverage and several other NAYS Coach member benefits. We are confident that you will agree with us that these trainings are useful no matter the level of sports experience you might have had in the past.

Registration information for your NAYS Coach Training is included below. Once you click on the link to the registration page you will need to know two things when prompted:

1) Your Role which is listed as: NAYS Coach
2) The name of our organization in the NAYS system which is: Mason Youth Basketball
