Equipment

This page gives a summary of the equipment each player needs to provide, and what equipment the league provides.

You can refer to the Little League website for additional information regarding equipment.

Baseball Bats

It is not necessary for each player to have their own bat.  There are often plenty of available bats.  If a player wishes to use his/her own bat, however, the bat must be approved for Little League play.  The bat approval requirements are different depending on the division and are discussed in detail below.

As of January 1, 2018, the new USA Baseball Bat Standard was implemented. USABat Standard bats must be used in the Little League Major Baseball Division and below. Either USABat Standard bats or BBCOR bats must be used at the Intermediate (50/70) Baseball and Junior League Baseball Divisions. At the Senior League Baseball Division, all bats must be meet the BBCOR standard. Little League-approved baseball bats that were approved for use for the 2017 season will no longer be acceptable for use in any Little League game or activity as of January 1, 2018. For more information on the USABat standard and a complete list of bats approved through the USABat Standard, visit usabat.com.

Peccole follows all bat guidelines and regulations implemented by Little League. You can find the most up to date regulations at:

Batting Helmets

Peccole Little League recommends each player purchase their own batting helmets.  League shared helmets are available however, upon request by any player, parent or coach. If a player has his or her own helmet it must meet NOCSAE specifications and bear the NOCSAE stamp as well as an exterior warning label.

Any attachment to the helmet, such as c-flaps (cheek guards) must comply with Little League Rules.  Those rules are summarized by clicking on the link to the right.

Under Little League rules, helmets may not be re-painted and may not contain decals or stickers any unless approved in writing by the helmet manufacturer or authorized dealer. This means players may NOT wear helmets with club ball logos or other decals.

Athletic Protective Cup

Under Little League rules, a metal, fiber, or plastic type cup is mandatory for all male players catchers and STRONGLY recommended for all other male players, per Rule 1.17 of the Little League Green Book.

Athletic supporters are required for all male players.

Hydration

Las Vegas's warm weather months can get exceptionally hot.  To protect against heat stress, heat stroke, heat exhaustion, and heat illnesses, all players need to be hydrated before games and practices.

Players should bring plenty of bottled water or sports drinks to each practice and game.  One bottle is often not enough for a lengthy game.  Please contact our Safety Officer with any further questions or concerns.

Equipment Provided by Peccole Little League

Team Uniforms

Peccole Little League is proud to offer what it considers the highest quality uniforms among other Little Leagues.  Each player receives the following:

  • Team Jersey
  • Baseball Hat
  • Belt
  • Socks

Each player and team must wear the jersey that is provided by Peccole Little League. Your coach will determine the color pants you will need to purchase independently. If players want to wear knickers instead of long pants, they are allowed to, provided they keep the same color as the rest of the team's pants. For example, if a team has white pants, the player must buy white knickers.

Catcher's Gear

Each team is issued a set of catcher's gear, appropriately sized for the division in which the team players.  This includes helmet, throat guard, chest protector, and shin guards.  In addition, each team is issued a catcher's mitt.  Left-handed catcher's mitts are available on request.

If players chose to use their own catcher's gear, they should be aware that Little League rules require the dangling-style throat protector for all catchers.  In addition, catchers must use a catcher's mitt and not a fielding glove.  Finally, the "skull cap" style catcher's helmet (with separate mask) is not permitted under Little League rules.

Game Balls

Peccole Little League issues each team enough game balls for new balls to be used in each game:

  • The Minors, Majors, and Juniors divisions get 2 game balls per game.
  • The Tee Ball division gets a box of new Rawlings TVB T-balls (soft core) balls per season.

Batting Tees

Each Tee Ball division team is issued a batting tee for practices and games. The manager is responsible for the keeping track of and taking care of the tee during that season.

First Aid & Safety Equipment

The league provides first aid kit and instant ice packs for treatment of any injuries which are located in the Snack Shack.  Snack Shack ice is for emergency injuries only.

Glove

Little League gloves are often marked with an age range, but size and strength of the player are perhaps the most significant criteria. Try on a number of gloves and select the glove that compliments the player.

Glove Sizing Guidelines

Consider whether the player is playing tee ball or baseball.  Note the pattern size listed in inches is the measurement from the top of the index finger down through the palm to the base of the glove’s heel:

  • Tee ball (ages 4-6):  9" to 10 1/2"
  • Baseball (ages 7-9):  10" to 11 1/4"
  • Baseball (ages 9-12):  11" to 11 3/4"
  • Baseball (ages 13 & up):  11 1/2" to 12 1/2"

Remember that these are just recommendations.  Select a glove that the player feels comfortable wearing and using.

Cleats

Cleats must be molded or turf-style.  Metal spikes are not permitted for players or coaches in Little League except in the Juniors division.
