Coaching with Little League

Coaching in Peccole Little League is about more than guiding a team through a season, it’s about shaping the experience for every player. A coach is a mentor, a motivator, and a model of fairness and consistency. While responsibilities include running practices, organizing lineups, and managing game-day logistics, the true purpose lies in building skills, confidence, and a love for the game. Coaches are entrusted with developing players of all abilities, nurturing the potential of those just learning while continuing to challenge those who are more advanced. In Little League, every player is placed on a team and given the opportunity to grow. Coaches must be committed to providing all children, not just their own, with a meaningful and inclusive experience.

A successful coach leads with communication, empathy, and integrity. They prioritize effort and learning over wins and losses and know that what happens in practice often carries more long-term value than what happens in a single game. They keep parents informed in the same way they would want to be kept in the loop themselves, clearly, respectfully, and proactively. Above all, a coach builds a sense of team and community, creating an environment where players support each other, learn from their mistakes, and celebrate one another’s successes. Sportsmanship, accountability, and encouragement aren’t just taught, they’re lived, and they’re what make the Peccole coaching experience so rewarding.

Managing & Coaching In Peccole Little League

Volunteering To Manage A Team

If you wish to volunteer to manage a team, please complete your application.  Volunteering to become a manager does not guarantee one of being selected as a manager.  In certain circumstances, a person who has a proven ability to manage may be considered to manage teams in more than one division.  The manager application requires that the appropriate background check form be completed and submitted with the Volunteer Application (see Volunteer Application for details).  This is a prerequisite for being considered for a manager position.

Begin Process

  • Managers are required to attend training and safety meetings annually. Serving as a manager / coach in the past does not satisfy this requirement. Volunteers that cannot commit to attending these meetings may not receive an appointment as manager.
  • Managing children is a huge time commitment that also requires patience. Managers at Peccole Little League must understand they are responsible for helping to mold young citizens.
  • All volunteers will adhere to the Code of Conduct that you agree to when you sign up your child and fill out the volunteer application. The Code of Conduct can also be found under the Peccole Info tab.
  • All volunteers must submit to and pass a background check before they can assume any volunteer activities at Peccole Little League.

It is a privilege, not a right, to manage or coach in Little League. Under Little League regulations, there is no "tenure" for managers or coaches. Each manager / coach must be appointed prior to each season.

Second Step

  • The President appoints a Managers Nomination Committee to assist in appointing managers in each of the divisions.
  • The Committee will review and interview the volunteers that would like to manage a team.
  • The Committee will meet and provide recommendations to the President for his/her appointment.
  • In the event we do not have enough managers to fill each team in each division, we will recruit more volunteers as needed.

Third Step

  • The President will take the nominations from the Nomination Committee and review the applicant list.
  • If needed, the President will set up a follow-on interview with any of the candidates.
  • Due to regulations of Little League International, the decision to appoint a manager or coach is strictly within the discretion of the President. Appointments must also be approved by the Board of Directors.

Final Step

  • The Board of Directors will approve or deny the managers appointed by the President.
  • Approved managers will be contacted by the Coaching Coordinator.
  • After the drafts for each division, the manager will submit his / her list of coaches to the Coaching Coordinator to begin the process for appointment and approval.
