West Allegheny Youth Soccer Association

WAYSA Mission Statement

The mission of the West Allegheny Youth Soccer Association (WAYSA) is to create a fun, positive, and playercentered soccer environment that supports the long‑term development of every youth athlete. We are committed to providing ageappropriate training and game experiences that maximize each player’s touches on the ball, encourage creativity and decision‑making, and foster a lifelong love of the game.

WAYSA emphasizes player development over short‑term results by equipping coaches with tools and guidance rooted in the US Soccer grassroots philosophy—encouraging small‑sided play and engaging practice activities that allow players to learn through play and build fundamental skills at their own pace. We aim to support players in developing confidence, technical ability, teamwork, and enjoyment of soccer, preparing them for future success both on and off the field.

U6 & U8 Academy

We’re excited to continue the WAYSA Academy this spring and include our U8 players! The academy is designed for players born in 2018–2021! This program provides our youngest athletes with a structured, fun, and development-focused introduction to soccer.

Objective:
To create an engaging environment that builds foundational soccer skills, fosters a love for the game, and supports long-term player development.

U6 Program Overview - birth years 2020 & 2021

• Session Length: 8 weeks, starting Saturday, April 4; one session per week

• U6 Session Time - Location at Donaldson Field: Saturdays, 9:00–10:00 AM

• Cost: $50 per player (includes T-shirt)

U8 Program Overview - birth years 2018 & 2019

Session Length: 8 weeks, starting Saturday, April 4; two sessions per week, 1 weeknight practice and Saturday games

• Cost: $65 per player + $25 jersey if needed

Focus:
The Academy emphasizes touches on the ball, fun, and skill development over competition. Each session will include skill-based activities and small-sided scrimmages, guided by our academy director and  working in coordination with our HS Girls’ Coach, Christine Chiodo. Parent volunteers are encouraged to assist in player organization and support.

This program builds confidence, teamwork, and a love of soccer, setting the foundation for success in our In-House and Travel programs.

The Academy Program does not have set teams. Players are grouped each week when they arrive to support age-appropriate training, balanced play, and maximum involvement. For U8 games, teams will be formed on game days to promote fun, development, and equal participation.

In-House Program

Our In-House Program continues for players born between 2014 and 2017 (U10, U12), including the return of U12 In-House teams this season.

Purpose:
To develop core soccer skills, teamwork, and enjoyment of the game in a positive, local setting. The in-house program is a stepping stone to Travel Soccer, beginning at the U10 level.

Schedule:

• Practice: U10 and U12 Boys - Monday evenings, U10 and U12 Girls - Tuesdays

• Games: Saturday mornings

• Team formation and field details will be provided once registration closes

Travel Program

The Travel Program offers players born between 2008–2017 (U10–U18) the opportunity to grow through fun and competitive soccer against other community teams.

Focus:
Players of all skill levels can participate while developing advanced technical skills, teamwork, and game understanding.

Schedule & Structure:

• Games: Max of 8 per season (typically 4 home, 4 away; travel generally within one hour)

• Practices: Once per week on a coach-selected day

• Registration: First-come, first-served; waitlists may apply

• Uniform: Additional purchase required

Additional Benefit:
U10 and U12 Travel players may also participate in the In-House Program at no extra cost to maximize development opportunities.

Key Philosophy Across All Programs

• Player Development First: Age-appropriate training, meaningful touches, and skill growth are prioritized over competition.

• Fun & Engagement: Soccer should be enjoyable for all players, encouraging confidence and a lifelong love of the game.

• Preparation for Next Level: Programs are designed to prepare players for progression, both in skill and understanding of the game.

• Coach Support: Coaches are provided with tools, training, and guidance to ensure safe, effective, and development-focused sessions.
