General Information

Important NOTE:
WE DO NOT HONOR REQUESTS FOR COACHES OR CARPOOLING. PLEASE DON'T ASK.

Refunds:
We only offer full refunds to those players who register and then make a fall sports team at their middle school and who let us know that information ahead of time. If your child decides not to play prior to the first games, we will offer a refund of the registration fee minus the cost of the uniform. If your child decides to not play after games begin, no refund will be granted. We work VERY hard to establish balanced teams and when someone quits after teams are picked, it makes it very difficult to
re-balance teams.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sherrills Ford Optimist Soccer uses the following playing age levels for it's players:

How to calculate playing age: Take the current year and subtract the birth year.
For example, if the birth year is 2010, then the playing age is 8. 2018 - 2010 = 8.
The player would register for U10 (ages 8 or 9).

U6: 4-5 years old
U8: 6-7 years old
U10: 8-9 years old
U13: 10-12 years old (or still in 6th grade)
U16: 13-15 years old

All age levels are co-ed.
During the soccer season, most teams practice twice per week and play one to two games.

U6 Academy
The U6 Academy is an instructional league that plays in-house games. New teams are picked for every game so that players can play with a lot of new team mates. The players receive a reversible jersey so that they can play either on the green team or the white team. Scores are not kept and teams do not use a traditional goalie (no player can use their hands). Three players per side play at a time and a coach is on the field to provide guidance.   U6 Academy is a great way for a child to learn their first sport!

U8 Level
The U8 Level is a more competitive instructional league that plays other SFO Teams as well as some possible interleague games with Maiden and/or Mt. View. Travel to Maiden or Mt. View may be required for some games. This league utilizes a goalie and scores are kept. Six players per side play at a time and a coach is on the field to provide guidance. There is no tournament at this level.

U10 Level

The U10 Level is a competitive level that plays teams from SFO, Mountain View, and Maiden in a league called Catawba Cup Soccer. Travel to Maiden and Mountain View will be required for some games.  Eight players per side play at a time. There is an end-of-season seeded tournament.

U13 Level
The U13 Level is a competitive level that plays teams from SFO, Mountain View, and Maiden in a league called Catawba Cup Soccer. Travel to Maiden and Mountain View will be required for some games. There may be some scrimmage games with Lincolnton Parks and Rec and Christian Family Academy. Ten players per side play at a time. There is an end-of-season seeded tournament.

U16 Level
The U16 Level is a competitive level that plays teams from Lincolnton Parks and Rec. Travel to Lincolton Parks and Rec will be required for most games. There may be some scrimmage games against Christian Family Academy. The total number of registrants across the league will determine the size of teams that play. There is a double-elimination end-of-season tournament.
